Message from the Prez

It takes a village to raise a child.  However, it's really tough when the population of village idiots is growing.  We really need our entire community to come together, and not just for our sake, but the for sake of all those students wanting to get ahead in a school district that is spiraling in the wrong direction.  We need everyone to email, call, etc. the board of trustees to let them know that changing district policy to disallow UIL at 48% of the high schools in the district, in just wrong.  Please talk to people you know with students at other HISD schools and get them to join in as this does affect them.  There is a growing number of board members that follow our soon to be "ex" superintendent in his belief that magnet programs need to go and this is just another way they can make that happen.

Please join us at our February PTO meeting starting at 6:30 PM this Thursday (18th) to discuss our latest battle with the board.  In addition, we have a wonderful speaker to help us all remember why we chose CVHS and to help get our kids into the right college  program.  She will have door prizes too, so don't miss out!

Keep Calm and Rhino On!

College Admissions info session
PTO Presents Diane Overman

Join us for our next PTO General Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18. Come discuss the latest developments on the UIL situation, then stay for our featured presentation about the college admissions process.

Diane Overman, an independent college consultant and owner of Overman College Consulting, will present an information session entitled "What's New in College Admissions and How to Prepare your Child for the College Admissions Process." Diane is based in Clear Lake and works with students from many Houston-area school districts, as well as with students from other parts of Texas and the rest of the country. She is a member of five college counseling professional associations, attends three or more annual conferences for updates and networking, and visits over 25 colleges each year. She is Strong Interest Inventory certified and also offers the cutting-edge interactive ability-based College Success Profile. Both assessments help guide students to learn which majors and careers would be good fits for them.  More information on Overman College Consulting can be found at www.where2go2college.com

Door prizes will awarded. Hope to see you there!

PTO Scholarships for Seniors
All seniors are encouraged to apply

This spring, the CVHS PTO will award up to $2,500 in scholarships to members of the Carnegie Vanguard High School Class of 2016.  These scholarships will be awarded without regard to GPA or class rank.  The PTO wants to reward students who display a desire to learn, provide service and show respect for others, and work hard.

Scholarship awards will be based on a combination of factors, including service to school and community, as well as challenges faced and met. Seeking to honor individuals who best represent the spirit of CVHS, both inside and outside the classroom, the PTO encourages ALL Carnegie seniors to apply.

All complete applications received by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. Applicants selected as semi-finalists will be scheduled for interviews in late April and early May.

Application is available HERE

Application deadline is midnight on Friday, April 8.

Friends and Family Campaign Donors

THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS DONORS

We'd like to take a moment to thank so many members of our community for their support of our Friends and Family Campaign.    This years campaign is raising money for a covered outdoor pavilion in the CVHS courtyard.  This will be a beautiful and functional addition to our existing amphitheater, and will allow us to use the space in more ways.

This effort is spearheaded by CVHS parents Kevin McCarthy and Brent Nyquist, and we are grateful to them for the generous donation of their time and talents.

Our Friends and Family Campaign goal for the 2015-2016 school year is $40,000.    Together we have raised nearly $27,000 to date.   Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the CVHS PTO.
