Message from the Prez
Politics. It isn't enough we are bombarded daily with the circus we call "The race for the White House", but we also have to deal with it in our public school system. Is it too much to ask for them to just consider the students when their decisions are made? To piggy back on my last few communications, the fight for CVHS UIL sports is back on. The DEC committee voted to recommend Carnegie be allowed to keep its UIL sports, or phase it out over a period of time. The grandfathering part never made it to the HISD board agenda, only the phase-out part. You should have received a separate e-mail earlier today discussing this matter.
On to more pleasant business. Don't forgot that the PTO offers scholarships to our seniors. The details and application are being posted on the web site ( www.vanguardian.org). We will also have a general meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18. The format will be the same with a teacher social period from 6:30-7 p.m., minor PTO business, then speakers - see below!

Diane is based in Clear Lake and works with students from many Houston-area school districts, as well as with students from other parts of Texas and the rest of the country. She is a member of five college counseling professional associations, attends three or more annual conferences for updates and networking, and visits over 25 colleges each year. She is Strong Interest Inventory certified and also offers the cutting-edge interactive ability-based College Success Profile. Both assessments help guide students to learn which majors and careers would be good fits for them. More information on Overman College Consulting can be found at www.where2go2college.com. Door prizes will awarded. Hope to see you there!

Friends and Family Campaign Donors
THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS DONORS
We'd like to take a moment to thank so many members of our community for their support of our Friends and Family Campaign. This years campaign is raising money for a covered outdoor pavilion in the CVHS courtyard. This will be a beautiful and functional addition to our existing amphitheater, and will allow us to use the space in more ways.
This effort is spearheaded by CVHS parents Kevin McCarthy and Brent Nyquist, and we are grateful to them for the generous donation of their time and talents. Our Friends and Family Campaign goal for the 2015-2016 school year is $40,000. Together we have raised nearly $27,000 to date. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the CVHS PTO.
