Message from the Prez
Welcome Back! As we start a new school year, your PTO board is ready to execute on BIG plans we made during our summer planning session. We have been brainstorming new ideas to emphasize the FUN in FUNdraising! Our new VP of Fundraising, Mark Levine, has some great ideas to help bring our community together. BBQ Blowout? Wine and cheese more soothing to your palette? Bingo anyone? Stay tuned for more details. Of course, our Friends & Family campaign will continue as our biggest fundraiser. I know we can count on the generosity of our community again this year as we top off the funds needed to complete some major projects. More on those later. I want to thank all the parents that responded to our PTO meeting survey. (You can still get your input in here!) The board will be analyzing the results and trying to incorporate as many suggestions as possible. One change is the format of our general meetings. Beginning with the meeting of Sept. 17, we are moving the meeting time to 7 p.m., but adding a social period from 6:30-7 p.m. and inviting different groups of teachers. There will be food for sale for class fundraising, and multiple speakers to accommodate different class levels. However, the first meeting on Thursday this week will keep the old timing with a brief introduction prior to this week's open house. That means that we will kick off at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there, and again, Welcome Back! Joan Khosla president@cvhspto.org

Carnegie Open House and PTO meeting
Hope to see you Thursday night As Joan mentioned, the first PTO meeting of the year, coupled with the annual Carnegie Open House, is set to kick off at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 27.
Don't miss this chance to meet with your kids' teachers and get to know the entire CVHS staff, connecting faces to the names on your Rhinos' schedules.
The program begins in the Carnegie Cafegymnateria (trademark pending) where you'll get to meet the PTO board and Mr. Moss, as well as vote on the budget and check out (and volunteer for) the PTO's many and varied activities and initiatives. After the meeting, parents will proceed to their Rhinos' advocacy (home room), and then follow their schedule. Just like in previous years, this event is for parents and guardians only, and not for your students or their siblings as there is just not enough space to accommodate everyone. Parking is limited, so carpooling is something you might want to consider, as well as arriving early.
Hope to see you there!

Cross country: Practice officially started last week, and all runners old and new must come meet with Ms. Bohenick as soon as possible. Paperwork is already past due. Talk to Ms. Bohenick at school in Room 106 and/or e-mail her at rdavis10@houstonisd.org.
Men's soccer: Tryouts for incoming freshmen and pre-selected sophomores and juniors will begin Monday, Sept. 28. Look for a signup sheet soon. If you have already earned a slot from the spring tryouts, you do not need to sign up. Regular practices will begin Monday, Oct. 12.

Badminton needs you!
A Badminton Club has recently formed at Carnegie, and they need a little help to get going.
They're asking for donations of racquets, shuttlecocks/birdies and/or nets. They do not have to be new as long as they're in fit condition.
If you can help, contact Ms. Alcoriza at aalcoriz@houstonisd.org.
