Proud Rhinos coming atcha!
Come honor our best and brightest
The CVHS PTO would like to invite all CVHS students, faculty, staff and family members to come join us as we honor ourstudents' accomplishments at the annual Rhino Awards Banquet at the school, starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 18.

Dinner tickets are $17 in advance and $22 at the door. A dinner ticket is not required to attend, but is required if you want to partake of the fabulous banquet we have lined up for the evening. Among the highlights of the yearly dinner is the parade of seniors, who will be announcing their college choices. However, the awards are not only for seniors, as there are many honors to dole out among all grade levels.

Even if your student doesn't anticipate an award, the evening is about so much more than that. It's a catered event with great food, a final opportunity to mingle with parents and teachers and a good chance to hear about the many wonderful colleges CVHS alumni attend. It's set to be a celebration of All Things Rhino and Wonderful, and we hope to see you there.

To purchase a ticket, go to vanguardian.org.

Seniors bringing it all home
May schedule a little different for our soon-to-be grads

After putting in their time for four years, the Class of 2015, the final class to have attended classes at the old Scott Street location (how is that even possible?!?), have a different schedule this month than everyone else.

The seniors' final month as active Carnegie Vanguard students (not their final month as Rhinos, though, because once a Rhino, always a Rhino) begins with an approved late arrival, at 11:30 a.m. this Friday, May 8. And here is the remaining schedule:
  • May 15: 12:45-3:30 p.m. Bus to Kingdom Builders Hall and back for graduation rehearsal.
  • May 18: 6-8 p.m. Spring Awards Banquet
  • May 19: Fifth period final exams
  • May 20: Sixth period final exams
  • May 21: Seventh period final exams
  • May 22: First and second period final exams
  • May 27: Senior trip to Kemah Boardwalk
  • May 28: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Senior panoramic picture and senior breakfast
  • May 29: Be at Kingdom Builders Hall, 6011 West Orem, by 6 p.m. Graduation begins at 7 p.m. This is Friday evening and you will be traveling to southwest Houston. ALLOW FOR TRAFFIC!

As for graduation, all seniors should have received the following information on a form to be signed by parents and returned to Ms. Chapman's office. If you haven't done this, now is the time to do so.

All visitors will be scanned by security prior to entrance t the facility. Graduation gowns should be ironed in advance and draped across the seniors' arms when they arrive. No parents or visitors will be allowed in the line-up area. Balloons, flowers and air horns are not allowed in the venue.

As for dress code, hair must be neatly groomed without accessories. Graduation caps must rest on the top of the head with the "V" of the cap on the forehead. No tennis shoes or sandals will be allowed. Also, there will be no sunglasses, cameras, purses, necklaces, chains or other accessories outside the gown. Phones MUST BE powered off.

Senior men should wear dark shoes, dark socks, dark slacks, dress shirts and ties.

Senior women should wear appropriate shoes and dresses of appropriate length, but not extending beyond the graduation robe.

It is against HISD rules to throw graduation caps. (If you don't like this one, take it up with the district.) Inappropriate behavior on stage, on the floor or in line will be dealt with by removal from the building.

No senior will be allowed to march if she or he has not passed all STAAR and course requirements or if there are any asterisks associated with attendance. Now is the time to take care of that.

For more information or questions, contact the office at 713-732-3694.

Other PTO news

The final teacher and staff appreciation breakfast is set for 7:15-8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20. We're happy if you can drop off a dish or help with setup or cleanup. All are welcome to stay and visit with teachers and staff.

Note: please do not bring any dishes or utensils that you want returned unless you plan to stay through the breakfast. We have plenty of serving utensils.

To sign up to help and/or bring a dish, click here.

Also, the 2014-15 Online Directory will be shut down May 15 so we can set it up for the 2015-16 school year.  A printed version of the student directory has been distributed to all families who listed their students in the directory. Even though you missed the printing, you can STILL get your student in the directory for online access. Please click this link here to enter your student.

This year the PTO opened up online access to the directory. All parents who have an email in the directory should have received an email with links to setup an account for access both via computers and mobile devices. If you did not receive the email and wish to gain online access, please send an email to directory@cvhspto.org to resolve this issue.
