NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS ARE AWKWARD!
How Uncomfortable Interactions Are Good for Us and Society

Neighborhood association meetings can be awkward, uncomfortable, challenging, and frustrating. This awkwardness is not a flaw in our public involvement system, but rather integral to it and can confer added personal benefits. It is also precisely why you should participate. So next time you find yourself at a neighborhood association meeting, embrace the discomfort. Maybe even revel in it.

TRENDS IN LAND USE
July Edition - Hidden Density

Many Portland neighborhoods have a rich history of small-scale multi-family buildings like duplexes, fourplexes, and courtyard apartments being mixed in with single family homes. In light of rising housing costs and concerns over incompatibility of new residential development, it might be worth reconsidering re-allowing this type of development, which could densify single-family neighborhoods without disrupting their character.
