HOUSING JUSTICE
How The Movement Is Gaining Momentum

Rising rents citywide and weak tenant protections are no longer affecting only poorer people and families - they are impacting the middle class. Portland's inner-city neighborhoods are becoming less accessible to people from all income levels. It is within this environment that more and more people are taking the position that to avoid the fate of cities like San Francisco and New York City, Portland will need to employ more than just the free market - Portland will need regulation.

TRENDS IN LAND USE
March Edition

Positive or negative or a little bit of both, new development does have an impact on the systems we collectively share. One way cities like Portland try to account for those impacts is through system development charges (SDCs). These are one-time charges levied on new development or when there is a change in use at an existing site to recover all or part of the cost of building infrastructure to serve that development.

THE SAGA OF THE STREET FEE
An After Action Report

The street fee has now been put on hold but the story is not over. The roadblocks SE Uplift experienced accessing basic, public records while we researched this issue are troubling. There is a larger conversation currently gaining steam in this state on public transparency and access to public documents. SE Uplift will continue to follow this issue, and there will be a role for us to play in this discussion.

SE UPLIFT BOARD MEETING
March Agenda

At this month's SE Uplift Board meeting we will discuss and vote on our position on Portland's Comprehensive Plan, determine our strategy for pursuing a refund of our open document request fee, hear an advocacy request regarding Halsey Road (67th - 74th), and more. SE Uplift board meetings are open to the public and interested community members are welcome to attend.
