NEIGHBORHOOD SMALL GRANTS ARE BACK
Up To $23,018 Available For Community Projects

SE Uplift is excited to announce the return of the Neighborhood Small Grants program aimed at fostering community involvement, strengthening community leadership, and increasing community impact on public decision making. Applications will be available on September 15th and there will be two grant preparation workshops in October. 

 

TRENDS IN LAND USE
September Edition

Portland's current set of tools to promote and develop affordable housing is insufficient to meet growing demands. With this article we take a look at what programs and policies Portland (and its varied partners) currently has to address affordable housing needs. Then we look at some approaches other cities across the country are taking.

 

ENVISION DIVISION
Rotating Art & Input Installation 

During the month of September community members will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts on the future of SE Division by submitting comments at suggestion boxes hosted at local businesses. These playful installations hope to give all Portlanders an opportunity to shape their neighborhoods. Input can also be submitted through this online survey

Foster-Powell's Erica Bjerning & Christian Smith

Christian Smith and Erica Bjerning are deeply committed to the Foster-Powell neighborhood. They've devoted nearly a decade to it, and have no intention of stopping any time soon. We sat down this month to talk to this powerhouse couple about their changing neighborhood, finally getting funding for the Foster Streetscape Plan, and how they've embrace neighborliness in their personal lives.

At this month's SE Uplift Board meeting we will discuss board outreach and recruitment, consider a response to City Council's decision regarding AirBnB, hear a request for support for the parks bond, review the basics of board service, decide on next steps for strategic planning, and more.
