What do you get when you combine language, art, nature, and dedicated parent volunteers? - A bright and whimsical tile mural celebrating the wonderful cultura l diversity and creativity at Grout Elementary School.
Over the past three years, the tiny hands of over 300 children and the guiding hands of countless volunteers have been carefully crafting clay tiles and glazing them with the full spectrum of striking colors that Oregon's landscape has to offer. The tiles depict fish, birds, flowers, insects, leaves, and many other animated elements of nature. Read full article...

SE Portland Tool Library Needs a New Home
|
The Southeast Portland Tool Library (SEPTL) is now over two and a half years old and has over 2000 members in inner SE Portland. The SEPTL it seems has now outgrown its space that 2 ½ years ago seemed sufficient. Growth is good as far as a tool library is concerned, but it now leaves us very cramped and needing a new space.
St. David of Wales Church has provided a wonderful place for SEPTL to begin its work, but the SEPTL Board of Directors feels the time has come to begin a search for a larger space that will better suit the library's needs. Read full article....

Eastside Forum completed its first workshop series in November of 2012, with support from Multnomah County Cultural Coalition. Over twenty community members contributed ideas, issues, and scenes to the performance process, and workshop participants performed for an audience as part of First Friday at Milepost 5, on November 2rd. Audience members were invited to join actors on the stage for games, exercises, and the creation of 'images' that reflected the theme that had emerged consistently from the community workshops: Connect [dis]Disconnect.
As part of the Eastside Forum Project, Living Stages is planning a Community Training, March 9-10, 2013 to continue to develop a performance troupe here along 82nd Avenue-- the 82nd Avenue Players! Community participants will receive training in community-building, leadership, and interactive theatre while developing a series of short interactive plays based on their own experiences of the challenges and possibilities of living, working, accessing services along 82nd Avenue. No theatre experience is necessary! The training will be offered free to members of the community along 82nd Avenue. For more information, go to the website. To register for the training and performance, email tamara@livingstages.org.
