St. Ambrose Celebrates Black History Month
Since 1976, each February has been designated Black History Month by Presidential Decree. At St. Ambrose we have commemorated African American heritage through poetry, weekly reflections, and discussion. A staff favorite was this story about "The Friendship Nine," a group of civil rights era activists who were celebrated in a South Carolina court room last month, 54 years after being arrested for a peaceful sit-in at a "whites only" lunch counter. You can read the full story here
Focus on Homesharing:
Helping Single Parents find Housing
St. Ambrose has been matching home owners and home seekers to create a low cost housing alternative for Baltimore residents since 1988.

Homesharing is excited to expand the influence of our program by launching "Parent- Child Homesharing," a pilot program to assist single parents who would benefit from the stable and affordable housing option that Homesharing provides.

Homesharing can benefit Single parents by not only bringing down the costs of housing, but by also providing a stable and safe environment for a parent and child to grow and thrive. Homesharing isn't about just renting a room, it's about working together to build a supportive home.

Based on 2010 census data, this graph illustrates the economic stratification facing single parents in the United States. St. Ambrose believes that Homesharing can be a viable housing solution to help combat the economic hardships of single parents in Baltimore.
Be a part of the solution.
How can you get involved with Parent-Child Homesharing?  Help us recruit Home providers who will partner with St. Ambrose to make homesharing a reality for single parents with a child. All participants in our program are interviewed and reference-checked so that we can make informed recommendations for each match.
