Energy Upgrades Means $$ Saved
|
In March of this year, the Baltimore City Department of Weatherization/Baltimore Housing Authority conducted a complete energy audit on all 54 Union Avenue Apartments. During the audit, they replaced the light bulbs with CFL energy efficient bulbs, put in new weather stripping and replaced shower heads. And this was just the start to the upgrades underway at Union Avenue. Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) awarded St. Ambrose the funding to replace old furnaces and hot water heaters in the first phase of improvements. The goal of the upgrades is to :
- reduce the costs of energy for its residents
- increase the comfort and improve the quality of the indoor environment
- reduce the carbon footprint of the complex.
This is St. Ambrose's largest energy upgrade project to date, encompassing 54 apartments in a multi-family complex. We have completed smaller scattered site upgrades in the past and are very excited about the savings that residents have realized, sometimes as much as $200 annually. We could not accomplish any of this without our many City and State partners. You can get your own energy audit by contacting your Community Action Partnership Center.
