Inner Mediation: LifeBeforeDeath
We often teach what we need to learn ourselves. In this Mediation Masters workshop, we will work with the practice of Inner Mediation. The more present we are with ourselves, the more present we can be with others. In LifeBeforeDeath, participants will learn and practice new mediation skills using awareness, active listening, and a neutral seat that acknowledges the plurality of perspectives and possible resolutions in every conflict.
The more we can sit in that pluralistic seat, the more space and clear vision we can bring to the process. We walk into every interaction with whatever filters and lenses we have created and accumulated in our lives. In this workshop, we will consider which filters we want to leave behind, and what experience and expertise we want to call in. We hope this practice provides you with either a new or more finely honed tool for your personal and professional tool belts.
Trainer: Alison Raby Alison is a licensed Personal and Professional Development Counselor, with a degree in Holistic Health from DePaul University. Much of her training was completed at Esalen Institute, where she continues her study and teaching. She created the work of LifeBeforeDeath as a natural extension of her experiences with death, and her 25 years as a student of alternative therapies. Her training includes: GAP (Gestalt Awareness Practice), Buddhist Practice, Energy Work, Shamanism, The Enneagram and Dream Work, among other modalities. LifeBeforeDeath is Alison's personal practice and public invitation to enter into an ongoing dialogue with Life and Death. Alison recognizes that this work is as old as the world, and that everything she knows, minus what she came in with, has been learned from her teachers: Christine Price, the wife of Esalen founder Dick Price, who was a student of Fritz Perls, the father of Gestalt Therapy; Dick Olney, as Gestalt Therapist, Shaman, and student of Fritz Perls; and her father, Al Raby, a leader of the Chicago Freedom Movement, a friend and peer of Martin Luther King Jr., and Director of the Peace Corps in Ghana under Jimmy Carter.
