TEAMWORK & CO-MEDIATION
How Improv Can Help

Once the opening remarks are completed and the mediation begins, any and all "scripts" usually go out the window.  Each mediator comes to the table with her/his own toolbox of conflict resolution approaches and techniques. They are immediately prepared to assess the multiple, intensely competitive needs of the disputants.

Panel mediation, however, does have its challenges.  When working as a team, co-mediators need to be quick on their feet, open and jointly willing to change directions in the heat of the moment.

So what can you do when you have a serious difference of opinion with one of your co-mediators?  Assisting others in conflict is extremely difficult when there is tension between the mediators themselves.

Improv Theatre, thriving on the "unscripted," offers some new insights for mediators needing to act in the moment.  Behind its creative spontaneity, improv has proven techniques for being proactive on demand.  In this energetic workshop, participants will enjoy some dynamically interactive improv games and activities.

You'll learn how these exercises can help you think better on your feet, while improving the teamwork essential for effective panel mediation.  You'll gain new skills for your own mediation toolkit.

Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving around in.  Be prepared to have fun!
