Asian Pacific Americans in the South: Stories About Love, Family, & Identity

The Asian Pacific American Historical Society (APAHS), StoryCorps Atlanta, Dekalb County Public Library (DCPL), and the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) will host an afternoon of stories from the Asian Pacific American community in the South. Come hear stories of diverse Asian Pacific Americans and you may even learn how to document your family history! Event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by SAGE Atlanta  (Services & Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian Bisexual & Transgender Elders). It is the story of an older lesbian who is tricked into signing a Power of Attorney over to her daughter who tears her away from her long-time life-partner of 31 years and puts her in a nursing home. The couple escape and flee from Maine to Canada where they plan to get married. Cloudburst won awards at 8 International Film Festivals and the Grand Jury Prize at the Atlanta Film Festival. Doors open 7:00 pm - film starts at 7:30 pm sharp. Popcorn and refreshments available. Donations  accepted $1 to $10 sliding scale, but no one turned away. Stay afterward for the discussion after the film led by Lorraine Fontana of SAGE.

Seeking College Interns for Summer and Fall in 2014. Interested in working on immigration reform and voter engagement in Georgia?  GALEO seeks undergraduate or graduate students every semester (Spring, Summer & Fall) for several part-time internships in community relations and administrative support. All student interns will be required to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week and work directly with the Executive Director and Program Manager on a variety of important duties.

Staff Attorney - LGBT Rights Project, Southern Poverty Law Center (Montgomery or Atlanta)

The Staff Attorney will be expected to bring strategic vision ,work collaboratively with staff, help lead SPLC's LGBT-rights litigation; and serve as a public face of the project. Will help the project develop and carry out multifaceted campaigns - which may include complex federal court litigation, policy work, community organizing, and communications efforts - to achieve our strategic goals. Substantial travel will be required. Applicants should have a strong commitment to advancing the rights of LGBT people, excellent writing skills, and at least three years' experience of relevant litigation and/or policy advocacy. Spanish proficiency is encouraged but not required. Ideally, this position will be based in our central office in Montgomery, Alabama, but will consider having the right candidate work in Atlanta. SPLC will pay reasonable relocation costs. 

 

Operations Assistant (short-term position) - National Domestic Workers Alliance - Atlanta Chapter

Position is15 hours/week for 12 weeks and will work from the Atlanta office. The National Domestic Workers Alliance organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor standards. Responsibilities include: greeting clients and answer telephone, maintain office calendar, update member info and chapter activities, maintain client materials, communicate upcoming chapter activities, etc. Women, People of Color, People with Disabilities and LGBTQ people strongly urged to apply. Outreach & Communications Coordinator - Georgians for a Healthy Future

Georgians for a Healthy Future (GHF), a nonprofit consumer health advocacy organization, has an immediate opening for an outreach and communications coordinator. The outreach and communications coordinator will provide communications, grassroots organizing, and research support for GHF's initiatives and priorities. This is a full-time position reporting to the executive director and based in Atlanta with some travel throughout the state.
