From Jack F. Last week after reading about the "Blue" residential unit I voiced my opinion in an email to SICA. I could not attend the meeting, and was hoping for some information in this week's letter. No such luck. I also did not see my letter.
REPLY: Jack, thank you for contacting SICA. Sorry your 'SICA website blog' post was missed when posting the update for the March 11th Singer Island residents' site plan meeting. For the latest update - Click Here -
Ocean Mall ... From Diane D. How about an update on the Ocean Mall?
REPLY:SICA is glad to see improvements at the Ocean Mall in several areas including spruced up windows, refreshed painting, power washed sidewalks, and renewed interest and attention from city council members and staff. But much remains to be done. Beautifying the property is important, but it's only a Band-Aid...the real issue is that we need thriving businesses to locate--and stay--at the mall. Increased leasing activity should be a top priority. However, a key obstacle to attracting lessees is fixing the parking deficiencies. The southwest corner should be made available for parking as soon as possible. It's unclear why the city has not yet acted on that. In addition, to boost the appeal of the Mall to tenants and customers alike, the fence around the unbuilt property should be removed and the area should be nicely landscaped. These are SICA's views--what are yours? If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions about the Ocean Mall, contact Ruth Jones at [email protected] or Mary McKinney at [email protected]. From Kurt E: Bank of America announces the closing of its Singer Island branch on June 30, 2015. So goes the bank ... so goes the Singer Island Post Office branch?
REPLY: Through the efforts of Protect Our Beaches lobbyist, Tom Derita, Congressman Murphy's office has agreed to look into and try to save the Post Office on Singer Island. No guarantees, however, a big step in the right direction.
From Joni: I thought I might start here to see how I can get some assistance with the City of Riviera Beach on the promised NEW STATE OF THE ART pump station? I was told this was supposed to be completed July of 2013 and still nothing has been done.
The island's population continues to grow but yet the sewer system is decades old and won't be able to handle this situation much longer. I already had a sink hole at the edge of my lawn and the street, crews worked all night with heavy equipment to replace the pipes that are disintegrating away under the road.
I was told we have the money set aside for the pump station, but no money to do the road repairs and the rerouting that will need to be done. Can SOMEBODY please help get this situation rectified? For all the taxes on the island that supports Riviera Beach, this should have been a priority years ago.
We can beautify the main street and put palm trees on empty lots but we can't take care of the necessities?
REPLY: We'll do our best ... Thank you for your patience!
