Singer Island Area News of The Week:

New Florida smoke alarm law begins Jan. 1 - WPTV - If your smoke alarm is powered by a battery, you may have to buy a new one on Jan. 1. The Florida Building Code will now require homeowners to install a 10-year, sealed battery smoke alarm in homes when replacing outdated or nonworking alarms.

Next year's Florida real estate taxes predicted to bring in windfall - Palm Beach Post - These taxes are now closely being watched by environmentalists. The so-called Florida Water and Land Legacy Amendment 1, approved by 75 percent of state voters in November, allows the state to use one-third of these tax collections for conservation lands and protecting water resources over the next two decades. The latest forecast from the Legislature's Office of Economic and Demographic Research shows that at least $700 million could be available for these environmental programs next year...see related: Several Ocala area projects again on Florida Forever priority list and this link: Florida Forever Program | State Lands from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

[ Editor's note: maybe these programs could be used to procure the 29 privately held parcels of land in Munyon's Cove (which include a significant area east of the blue line up to Ocean Blvd. including the north-side property on Pine Point Drive, in this picture below)

...and permanently protect the approximate 35 species of federally protected life that currently reside in and around Munyon's Cove?  Or, do you feel that this privately owned area should be developed?  Bring your input to the SICA discussion Monday evening! ]
