[ Editor's suggestion along the same lines: In case you haven't noticed, we are all in the middle of a technology revolution. If you think about it our area is already a leader in this revolution!  The current Chairman of Microsoft grew up in Riviera Beach, the personal PC was invented by IBM in Boca Raton, and Palm Beach County is home to some of the biggest security and hi-tech leaders in the world.  How about creating opportunity through education, by building a hi-tech trade school or area center of hi-tech excellence in the Lake Park, Riviera Beach, Mangonia Park corridor? Develop a world-class educational program built around next gen technology trades like: website development, search marketing, hi-tech security systems, drone pilots, and more.. all of which are in high demand, are high paying occupations which require very technical training but not the time or high cost of a traditional 4yr. university degree. ]

SPECIAL REPORT: SAVE OUR OCEAN MALL

A few pictures taken at our world class Riviera Beach municipal beach and city park last week
...and to the west our Ocean Mall.

Singer Island: Our World Class Beach viewed from the City of Riviera Beach Municipal Beach last week
- it is GORGEOUS!

Residents ...and thousands and thousands of visitors to our Island each month see this beautiful beach and then they walk this path (west) towards our municipal city park and our Ocean Mall...

Aerial picture of the city park.

A relatively new looking but closed up building with rusting windows...

Lots of sand

More sand (A LOT OF IT) - maybe this area could be repurposed?  Send us your ideas!

Which brings us to Ocean Mall.  Residents and thousands and thousands of visitors from around the world, either walk or drive by this view every day:

and this:  messy fencing and overgrown shrubs...

and this: under-utilized space, trash and....

 this: empty storefronts...

and this: more empty storefronts - you get the idea...

buildings to be torn down (soon?)

Ask yourself: Is this the place you'd like to spend your hard earned vacation dollars? Residents - how much do we collectively spend a month by dining to the north, west and south of the Island? ...and if you are a potential investor in the area you go the Riviera Beach CRA website

We will be having an arts and crafts show at the PBShores Community Center on Wednesday, 11/26, the evening before Thanksgiving, from 5-9PM. There will be lots of great artists, vendors and live music in this beautiful venue. You can see several of your favorite Sunset Celebration artists, plus a selection of other talented local folks. This event will benefit Adopt A Cat, a local no-kill shelter that works so hard to protect our furry friends, as well as our exceptional PBShores Volunteer Fire Department. Come have fun, enjoy the music and the ocean breezes, and maybe get a jump-start on your Christmas shopping. It sure beats the mall!

From: Vincent C

Subject: Benches and trash recepticles along N. Ocean Blvd

Hello All, I realize there are many more important issues than the one I'm bringing up --- again. However, considering the hundreds of people, many with dogs, that will be walking along N. Ocean Blvd. every day during the up-coming winter season, I believe SICA and/or the city ought to place at least two benches and trash receptacles  between 1 Singer Island condo and Pine Point Rd. This is a 6/10 mile stretch with no benches or receptacles compared to just north of 1 Singer Island where there are three within 3/10 mile and south of Pine Point Rd. where there are several. If we expect people to clean up clutter and dog waste , trash receptacles are a necessity. If benches and receptacles have been placed, I thank SICA and the city for this service. If not, I would very much appreciate hearing a reply from SICA as I did not receive one to my previous email sent several months ago.

[ Editor's note:   Thank you Gail in Palm Beach Shores!  Keep sending in the scoop and it will be shared here!  Vincent we responded directly to you (for everyone reading) on A1A benches/trash cans by Munyon's Cove:  The area mentioned is all private property and apparently the city has not been able to get permission from owners to place these items along A1A. There IS a brand new red bench in front of the Fire Station (per Councilwoman Dawn Pardo).  Please keep sending in your comments, scoop, ideas and news to be shared here with over 2257 of your neighbors.  Your Singer Island Civic Association WILL stay on these issues ]

Saturday Nov 8: Mural and Garden Project Take Root in Riviera Beach - In an ongoing effort to "Keep Riviera Beach Beautiful, Green, Clean and Safe," a new community children's garden will be planted at Revival Community Outreach Ministries on Saturday. Under the leadership of the Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation, adult and youth volunteers from Citibank and West Riviera Elementary School will begin laying the groundwork for the garden and paint a mural on the exterior side of the building that will serve as a beautiful backdrop.  The garden program will support Revival Community Outreach Ministries' mission to provide individuals and families with direct services and resources that will help them to achieve a life of self-sufficiency. It will enhance the existing food pantry program, which provides challenged families and individuals with perishable and non-perishable food items, and information about nutrition, buying and preparing low cost healthy meals.  Troy-Bilt is providing support through a grant for installation and tools.  Other partners include the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Paint Your Heart Out and Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful. Additional volunteers are invited to attend.  Refreshments will be provided during the event, followed by lunch.  The mural is designed by local artist, Danny Davis.

Sat/Sun November 15-16: Internationally known Boys Choir of Tallahassee to perform in Riviera Beach

Visit is in support of soon-to-launch Riviera Beach Boys Choir. The Boys Choir of Tallahassee has sung for the last four occupants of the White House, Oprah Winfrey and the Pope and, during the weekend of November 14-16, they will sing for us in Palm Beach County. The Choir is bringing its international renown here in support of a formative choir, The Riviera Beach Boys Choir, and to show people, especially the local boys themselves, what a group of singing young men can do for a community. The Tallahassee choir will perform at:

  • Max Fisher Boys & Girls Club, 221 W. 13th Street in Riviera Beach at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 15; and

  • Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church, 1273 W. 30th Street in Riviera Beach during the 11 a.m. church service on Sunday, November 16.

All performances are free but donations will be accepted. The Riviera Beach Boys Choir is an ambitious effort borne of a vision that came to Rev. Saulter and nurtured for nearly a year in planning by an A-list advisory board that includes three former Riviera Beach City Council members. The director of Tallahassee's choir, Dr. Earle Lee, is also an advisor.

The Riviera Beach choir's target is ages 8 to 18 but there is no limit on the number of participants; thus far, about 20 young men are already committed. They must first be members of, or join, the Boys & Girls Club. There will be tutorials in public speaking, filmmaking (through a New York City-based filmmaker) and mandatory study of chess. Their first performance is planned for January.  The focus, though, remains on song.  For more information or to support contact: Marian Dozier.
