From: Robert C. on Pine Point in Palm Beach Isles
Subj: Sunsets, Rainbows and Supermoon!
Dear Neighbors: I've got about 100 Sunsets .
Each one is more beautiful than the other. We live in a very special place: Singer Island and ...SICA, that's my wife's maiden name!
[ Editor's note: Thank you Robert for reminding us to make time to appreciate our little slice of Paradise and pay it forward! ]
From: David C. @ Sugar Sands Subj: Tentative proposed city annual budget
Good to see the city's revenues (taxes, etc) will be up by $4.65 million next year (tentative proposed budget) . Not so good to see that most of it will be absorbed by increased personnel expenditures. We already have the highest no. of employees/per resident of any surrounding townships. Our millage rate is almost the highest in the county. Singer Island contributes 46% of the city's property taxes. C'mon Council: use some of the increase to lessen our load. GIVE US A BREAK
Question of the week: Do we have any folks out there who are interested in serving on a new SICA committee to keep an eye on city spending and budgets and develop long term fiscal strategies to help our entire community? Commitments are very flexible--it's your analysis and insight that we need. Please contact us here if you can help.
Proposed Development at Blue Heron and Broadway
[ Editor's note: We had covered this a few months ago here on the SI Voice. There was a development proposal for a 7-Eleven gas station to be built where the old BB&T building on the corner of Blue Heron and Broadway is currently standing (it would have required a special zoning exception for approval). This plan had been voted down (4-to-3 against it) by the planning and zoning committee at that time. It is now on the agenda for an approval at the 8/20/2014 Riviera Beach City Council Meeting (this plan requires a vote for a special exception in order to be approved) - please click here for the agenda & details.
Click here for an interesting article about this site that was pulled from our Riviera Beach Library. It is a 1962 newspaper story about this very location titled "friendliest corner in Riviera Beach". It IS a historic and very high profile location in our city.
