Dear Fellow Members of Plymouth Church,

As Christians, we believe in a God that turns conventional wisdom upside down.

We think that kings are born in capital cities in the comfort of castles. So why did God enter time in a remote town and sleep in a stable? The ancients believed that the messiah would lead a great army to throw out the Roman oppressors. They were not expecting a Messiah who would be a suffering servant and who would die a horrific death on a cross.

Conventional wisdom says that if you have money and give some of it away, you will have less money. Christianity teaches that if you share what you have, you will have more, even to "wealth" beyond measure.

Conventional wisdom asks why you would give money into the church's management when you can manage it yourself. You know what worthy causes you want to support and you can, and do, support them as generously as possible. Christianity trusts that the Holy Spirit is at work within the church, guiding the choices of a community with common values and shared goals. In the church, we believe that by pooling resources under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can do God's work on earth. The more resources the church has available, the more of God's work that can be done.

Conventional wisdom says that in the world in which we live, it takes money to get things done. God did not turn that particular conventional wisdom on its head. If we are going to do God's work, no matter how many dedicated and hardworking volunteers we have, it still takes money to do it.

The Plymouth Stewardship Ministry is inviting you to go on record with your commitment for 2016-2017, and to do this prior to May 1. Alternatively, you can speak to a member of the Stewardship Ministry or staff who will be happy to assist you.

Please be generous in your support of the work of Plymouth Church.
