Share Your Stories
Great things happen in the Lutheran schools of the South Wisconsin District and I want to be able to share these. If you have something you feel is worth sharing, email me at cody@swd.lcms.org
"But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized him and said, "You must die!"
Jeremiah 26:8

The Old Testament Lesson from this past weekend was from the book of Jeremiah. As you know, Jeremiah was a prophet who was commanded by God to show the sins of the people of Israel and the consequences that would occur. Because of his (God's) message, he was beaten, threatened with his life, and imprisoned among other things. In the verse above, people heard the message and seized him saying "You must die!" Thankfully, as Christian educators in America we are not faced with this type of opposition. However, the message we share, the message of our sinfulness and God's forgiveness, is opposed in different ways. During my time at Mount Olive, a first grade parent took issue with the memory work that her son was assigned for the week. The passage, from Romans 6:23 is a familiar one to us, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The mother was upset that her son was being taught that the price of our sinfulness is death. She challenged the teacher and eventually myself on this assignment. She got so caught up in the "Law" portion of the verse that she didn't notice/understand/realize the "Gospel" portion (the gift of God is eternal life). We all have these stories. Students and parents in our buildings oppose the message we have been Called to share. They are minor oppositions, to be sure, compared to the opposition that Jeremiah faced, but they are oppositions nonetheless. Our Calling as Christian Educators is not easy, but it is our duty, responsibility, and honor to share the love of God with all...even in the midst of opposition.

kagerbauerSpaghetti Dinner for the Kagerbauers
FOR AARON AND CATRINA KAGERBAUER

Saturday, March 12, 2016
4:30 pm to 8:30 pm

St. Paul's Lutheran Church
8080 North 47th Street
Brown Deer, WI 53223

Our calling as Christians includes helping our family, neighbors, and fellow members in their time of need.
St. Paul's has a family that is in need of our prayers, our financial support and our moral support.

In 2014 Aaron Kagerbauer suffered a massive heart attack at the young age of 31. After this, he learned that he had Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFREF), or, systolic heart failure. At this time Aaron and Catrina (Director of Grow & Go Early Childhood Center, Mequon) had a two-year-old son and were expecting their second child. Aaron was receiving treatments that were improving his heart function when their daughter was born. However, a LifeVest external defibrillator and a Subcutaneous Implantable Defibrillator were not able to improve the functioning of his heart. He is now on a waiting list for a heart transplant.

Here are a few ways you can help with this project:
  • Pray for this family.
  • Donate spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, bags of salad, salad dressings and bread.
  • Volunteer to help cook, serve, or clean up (call the church office).
  • Purchase raffle tickets at the dinner.
  • If you cannot attend the dinner and you would like to donate to the family please send a check (payable to St. Paul's) and mark the envelope, "For the Kagerbauers."
