"Caring for the Church, Caring for the Church Worker"
Saturday, January 30, 2016
8:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church & School
N48 W31385 Hill St., Hartland
Keynote Presenter: Dr. Beverly Yahnke, clinical psychologist and Executive Co-Director for DOXOLOGY, will present "Serving the Church by Serving Her Servants: What's Your Action Plan?"
Below are some highlighted sessions. Click here for a complete list and descriptions of all breakout sessions.
BREAKOUT SESSION I:
- Be Well Reboot - New Year...new healthy choices. Steve Gruenwald, Concordia Plan Services, will tell us about the new tools and wellness resources now available to help members of the Concordia Health Plan "Be Well." You will also hear about the new rewards platform for healthy behavior (through Vitality), the new integrated health team; the Clear Savings Transparency tool (for procedures and prescription drugs); telecare for acute illnesses (accessed through computers, smartphones, and iPads); and the new Health and Wellness content section on the CPS website (videos, articles, tips, quizzes, etc).
- Preparing our Teenagers for College Challenges to Their Faith - Session led by Rev. Dan Anderson, Mt. Calvary, Madison. Our college students are in a unique time and place in their lives. In many vital ways, our children are making decisions for the future in all areas of their lives from their future vocation, to potential future relationships, to their long-term spirituality. College students are challenged in their Christian faith from all directions including their peers, their professors and even the curriculum which often seeks to deny the existence of God and the need for salvation through Jesus Christ. Some questions that will be addressed are those that I have heard from parents, pastors and students themselves over the years such as: How can we best prepare our teenagers for the challenges to their faith in college life? What can we do to encourage them to remain connected to Jesus and the church during their college years? What can we do to stay connected to our college students while they are away at college?
BREAKOUT SESSION II:
- Dam the Deficit with Data - Are you concerned about your congregation's financial situation at the end of the year? Dr. Nathan Jastram, Professor of Theology at CUW, Mequon will present some questions and answers backed by data that can make a difference when a congregation is headed toward a deficit at the end of the year.
- A Practical Guide for a Better Church Website - Are you looking to create a "church/school" website or looking to update the one you have? Brian Jaeger, LutherNew Web Design will present ways to help you sort through what is really important for your church website, with an emphasis on keeping it simple and inexpensive. Find out what works well - and what to avoid - as you seek to communicate your church's mission.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference. For questions or additional information, contact Barb Slak at 414-464-8100, ext. 745 or slak@swd.lcms.org

SWD Year End Appeal
" He Came for ALL Nations!"
|
This year the South Wisconsin District is lifting up our Hispanic ministry. What an incredible opportunity to reach the hundreds of thousands of Spanish-speaking friends in our District. The Sheboygan area pastors and congregations in partnership with the South Wisconsin District office have researched the need of missional work for the many Hispanic communities in the Sheboygan area. Under the leadership of several local pastors the partnership has decided to move forward to plant an Hispanic congregation in Sheboygan. A vicar has been selected, and the work is slated to begin sometime in early 2016!! It is amazing! Wonderful! And if it can happen in Sheboygan (where there are so many Lutherans), it can happen anywhere!
