Why I have an Identity
Problem and You May Too
Rev. Peter Kelm, SWD Mission Executive

Since being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, my God has taught me quite a few lessons. But one of those lessons is ongoing and painful. And I'm pretty sure you don't need a cancer diagnosis to get to the point.

The lesson is simply this: I have an identity problem.

Dr. Yahnke will invite listeners to enhance their current awareness regarding the challenges of church service and will suggest specific strategies that church leaders can employ to ensure that their pastors and teachers are best-equipped to continue to serve the sheep and lambs entrusted to them, all the while inviting new souls into the fold.

SWD Christmas Appeal
Our Savior Came for ALL Nations!

The nations. He came for the nations; for all of them. The baby born in Bethlehem is not a regional God. He's not a parochial divinity. He's for all. The Son of God took on human flesh and blood to redeem all mankind by His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection, and He did it for all nations!

This year the South Wisconsin District is lifting up our Hispanic ministry. What an incredible opportunity to reach the hundreds of thousands of Spanish-speaking friends in our District. The Sheboygan area pastors and congregations in partnership with the South Wisconsin District office have researched the need of missional work for the many Hispanic communities in the Sheboygan area. Under the leadership of several local pastors the partnership has decided to move forward to plant an Hispanic congregation in Sheboygan. A vicar has been selected, and the work is slated to begin sometime in early 2016!! It is amazing! Wonderful! And if it can happen in Sheboygan (where there are so many Lutherans), it can happen anywhere!

Please prayerfully consider a gift to support God's mission work to these Hispanic families in South Wisconsin. You can mail a check, made out to the South Wisconsin District with a notation that it is for our Hispanic Ministry, to 8100 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53222. If you would like to make a gift using a credit card, please contact Barb Slak (414-464-8100, ext. 745) or click here for online giving and select 2015 Year End Appeal.

May you and your family always bask in the warmth of our God's presence. God's blessings on your Advent and Christmas worship.

Winter Clothing for Prison Ministry

Our Missions office recently received a plea from our prison ministry chaplain, Rev. Afam Ikanih, for any help we can give to the House of Correction in Franklin, Wis. They are in desperate need of men's winter coats, hats, gloves and other outerwear, plus sweaters and other winter clothing. They have depleted their stock. Often when men are released, they are dropped off at a location to wait for next steps in their re-settlement process and do not have warm clothing.

If you'd be able to help, please call the Missions office (414-292-0744) or simply drop your items off at the District office, 8100 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, 53222. Our office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Thanks for your love and your help!
