"I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my limbs, my reason, and all my senses, and still preserves them; in addition thereto, clothing and shoes, meat and drink, house and homestead, wife and children, fields, cattle, and all my goods; that He provides me richly and daily with all that I need to support this body and life, protects me from all danger, and guards me and preserves me from all evil; and all this out of pure, fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me; for all which I owe it to Him to thank, praise, serve, and obey Him. This is most certainly true." (Martin Luther, Explanation of the First Article)
It is difficult for many to be content with what they have in our society. We are conditioned to always want more...always want better...always want the newest...etc. I am far too often guilty of not being content with what the Lord has provided for me. To make the problem worse, not only am I not always content, I am not always thankful. And finally, I have done nothing to deserve what God has given me. Although Thanksgiving is a secular holiday, it does provide us with the opportunity to stop and be thankful to our Lord for the many gifts he has given us. I am particularly thankful for:
- Faithful teachers and administrators in our Lutheran schools who boldly share the Gospel with students and families.
- Congregations who support the work of our schools, youth, and family ministries.
- Our spiritual shepherds, Pastors, who work with us and lead us in the mission field.
- Support staff and other helpers who aide us in so many different ways in order to bring the Gospel message to children and families.
Thank you for all of your work with the schools, youth, and families in our District...not just this week, but each and every day.
Chris

Kohl Student Excellence Award |

STUDENTS HAVE A FEW WEEKS LEFT TO SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATION!
WCRIS is happy to once again administer the Herb Kohl Education Foundation scholarships this year on behalf of our members and the students they serve. This year each award has been increased to $3,000! These awards are a tremendous opportunity for your schools to recognize and honor the achievements of your students and teachers. The deadlines are fast approaching and it is very important that we make these opportunities available to our teachers and students.
Student Excellence Award
14 students from religious and independent schools will be selected out of 100 statewide, and awarded a $3,000 scholarship for post-secondary education.
Excellence Scholarship application forms will be provided to schools in September. Schools should make applications available to all interested students. Completed applications must be received by the District office no later than November 25, 2015.
PLEASE NOTE: All Excellence Scholarship and Fellowship applications must be typed. For your convenience, both applications are provided in a format that is compatible with Microsoft Word.
