Great things happen in the Lutheran schools of the South Wisconsin District and I want to be able to share these. If you have something you feel is worth sharing, email me at
On my way to St. John's (Mayville) last Monday to lead chapel, I heard on the radio that the New York Stock Exchange plunged 1,000 points at the opening bell. By the time I had gotten back into my car, it was down 600 points. A few days later, the exchange had posted its highest two day gain in history. What a rollercoaster! Financial analysts and talking heads debated the causes of the initial plunge with some citing concerns over China's economy. It's amazing how dependent our stock market is on other factors. What a great reminder, though, that God's love is constant. It is not dependent on our actions. It is not dependent on our words. It does not rise and fall with how we act, speak, or think.  Paul noted this when he wrote to Titus, "But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:4-5). Finally, it is my prayer that our students come to know and experience this unconditional love. May they be comforted, uplifted, and reassured with the knowledge that God's love is an everlasting love.
"For us He rose from death again;
For us He went on high to reign;
For us He sent His Spirit here
To guide, to strengthen, and to cheer."

In preparation, please complete the Clifton StrengthsFinder found in the Strengths Based Leadership book sent to you with your registration materials. It is a Web-based assessment that measures an individual's most dominant talents, regardless of position. Upon completing the assessment, print your Strengths report and bring it to the Conference. You may find like others that your talents seem very ordinary to you because they come so naturally. Yet they are special and make you a very unique leader! If you have already taken the assessment, you do not need to take it again, but please bring your report with you.
Cost:  $65  (includes materials, book and lunch)

kohlKohl Scholarships

WCRIS is happy to once again administer the Herb Kohl Education Foundation scholarships this year on behalf of our members and the students they serve. This year each award has been increased to $3,000! These awards are a tremendous opportunity for your schools to recognize and honor the achievements of your students and teachers. The deadlines are fast approaching and it is very important that we make these opportunities available to our teachers and students.

Please see the information, deadlines and brief descriptions of the three scholarship awards below:

The Teacher Fellowship Award
14 teachers from religious and independent schools are selected out of 100 statewide, to receive a $3,000 grant. In addition, matching $3,000 grants will be awarded to the host school of each fellowship recipient.
Note: Teachers must be nominated before they can apply for this scholarship. The nomination deadline is September 25 so time is crucial!  A nomination form can be handed in directly to your central office or completed online.

Student Excellence Award
14 students from religious and independent schools will be selected out of 100 statewide, and awarded a $3,000 scholarship for post-secondary education.
Excellence Scholarship application forms will be provided to schools in September. Schools should make applications available to all interested students. Completed applications must be received by the District office no later than November 25, 2015.
