Last Tuesday, we held a New Worker Orientation for teachers and administrators in the South Wisconsin District. After a great introduction from "Kid President" (video here), I focused our devotion on the question "What are you teaching the world?" We have a tremendous responsibility and opportunity as teachers in Lutheran schools. Many of our Lutheran schools are no longer primarily Lutheran. Statistically in the SWD, for every Lutheran student there is another student who is either non-Lutheran or unchurched. In fact, in the Milwaukee metro area, a Lutheran student in a Lutheran school is the minority.

This should not be seen as burdensome. Rather, this is a tremendous blessing and opportunity. Students are being dropped at the doors of our schools every day where we can freely share with them the Word and the Love of God. And so, the question remains, "What are we teaching the world?" If our primary motivation is not to spread the Gospel of Jesus (that he died for our sins) then Lutheran schools have no purpose. Why? Well, academically, there are public schools that can compete with our Lutheran schools. In terms of social-emotional learning, there are public schools that can do that as well. If we are not distinctly Lutheran, if we do not share that it is only by God's grace that we have been saved through faith, then why do we exist? No other schools can do this. This is our purpose... and that is what we are teaching the world.

Concordia University Wisconsin
Terrace Room
7:30 am - 4:oo pm

Presenter:  Jo Ann Miller

In preparation, please complete the Clifton StrengthsFinder found in the Strengths Based Leadership book sent to you with your registration materials. It is a Web-based assessment that measures an individual's most dominant talents, regardless of position. Upon completing the assessment, print your Strengths report and bring it to the Conference. You may find like others that your talents seem very ordinary to you because they come so naturally. Yet they are special and make you a very unique leader! If you have already taken the assessment, you do not need to take it again, but please bring your report with you.

Register before September 1.

"It's a Cakewalk in Faith"

Presenter:   Gretchen Huesmann

Being a childcare director is like a cake walk... in faith. Sometimes being a  director is sweet, but it can get a little messy. It takes a lot of ingredients - love, joy, patience, teamwork, cooperation, determination, time, but most important of all is our faith in our Lord Jesus.

Join us for a day of devotions, rejuvenation with our keynote speaker Gretchen Huesmann, and fun as we decorate cakes and share ideas with other directors in the LCMS South Wisconsin District. You can   literally have your cake and eat it too!

Cost - includes lunch (and cake) :
$25 - by August 15
$35 - August 16-October 7
