Commissionined Minister Advisory Delegates for the 2016 Synod Convention

In accordance with the Synodical Handbook, all ordained and commissioned ministers whose names appear on the official roster of the SWD are required to attend the Convention. Rostered commissioned ministers, even if retired or not serving, are advisory delegates and may not act as a lay delegate.

For every 60 rostered Ministers of Reglion--Commissioned, the SWD is entitled to 1 advisory delegate [Bylay 3.1.3.1] to the national LCMS Convention in Milwaukee, July 9-14, 2016. The election of these delegates and alternates (13 each) will take place during registration at the SWD Convention at CUW, June 7, 2015.

Please share the following form with all of your rostered commissioned workers.

Advisory Delegate Nomination Form  - Due April 30.

Online registration is now open and the registration forms are available on the District website.

taxTuition Tax Deduction - please share with your families
The annual dreaded tax season features a silver lining for private school parents this year. The historic private school tuition tax deduction that WCRIS fought for during the last state budget is now ready for collection.

The new deduction will provide up to $30 million in tax relief for taxpayers with children in private schools.

This is a wonderful benefit, but only if parents remember to use it. Many parents don't know the deduction is available, and if the benefit is underused, opponents could argue that it is unnecessary.

Don't let that happen. Please encourage your school parents to seek the deduction when they file their taxes. An easy way for schools to help their families is to print  the one-page tax form from the WCRIS website and send it home with students. Writing in your school name in the first column, and school/church Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) in the  third column, will give parents a great head start.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact WCRIS, view WCRIS' recent press release or click here

PDPPDP

Teachers and Administrators who received Wisconsin Certification, from Birth-High School, after 2004, are required to complete a Professional Development Plan, or PDP. They may be Initial Educators, those having their first license, or Professional Educators, those holding their second and successive licenses. Teachers who received a teaching license before 2004 MAY also complete a PDP instead of taking 6 credits.

The SWD has a person available who has extensive knowledge of this process and is willing to present seminars about the PDP process. This person is also able to coach individual teachers while they prepare their PDPs, as well as sign their goals and completed PDPs as a teacher or IHE.

We are trying to determine whether there is a need or interest in this service. The initial idea, if there is enough interest, is to hold a workshop to help and support those needing to complete a PDP. If you have a teacher who is in need to assistance through the PDP process, please contact Mark.

mentoringMentoring Program

This year again, SWD will be supporting the New Teacher Mentor Program. Data has shown that mentoring programs are valuable and beneficial to new teachers in their first year of teaching.

This "intentional" mentoring program is designed to assist and resource new teachers who may be considered "at risk" within the first weeks of school. With a hands-on approach and personal intentionality, our hope would be to take good teachers that have been well prepared and give them the personal and professional confidences to be productive and efficient, as well as help build them a system of support as related to the school's mission.  Our teachers are our most valuable resource - we can't expect everything they needed to know has been accomplished in a four year program.

If having a new teacher in your building for the upcoming school year, and looking for ways to support them, please contact Mark (email link to my name).  The following link also describes the different options.  Pending approval, District support for Level A is $1,000 and Level B is $600.

breachBCBS-MN and Anthem Breach

Here is a link on the Concordia Plan Services Public web site to an article titled "CHP Not Administered by Anthem Health - Update 2/24."

http://www.concordiaplans.org/blog/chp-not-administered-by-anthem-health-update-2/

Below is the content of that news article:

We are in regular communication with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota (BCBS-MN), our health coverage administrator, about the Anthem data breach. While BCBS-MN and Anthem are separate companies, they have shared some member information with each other in the past.

Anthem has notified BCBS-MN that some CHP member data has been breached; this breach involves two levels of information:

  1. Approximately 200 former and current employee and dependent social security numbers were included in the breached data. These members will receive a letter from Concordia Plan Services shortly to confirm that they are in this group. These are the only CHP members whose social security numbers were breached.
  2. Data for additional former and current members, including name, address and birth date, was also obtained during the breach.

All affected former and current members will receive communications from BCBS-MN and Anthem beginning in March. The letters will detail the data obtained for each member and the identity protection plan that Anthem has put in place for all those impacted.

Both Concordia Plan Services and BCBS-MN are committed to protecting your information. We will continue to monitor this situation very closely and will provide updates when any new information becomes available.
