Passionate believers... confessing Christ
May God bless you during the season of Lenten reflection.

sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice..."

Feeding and Finding

I have a framed print in my office that I absolutely love. The photographer is the daughter of some dear members of my last church. I don't know what the particular effect of her photography is called, but it essentially focuses clearly on one part, while everything else is blurred and out of focus.

The print features five sheep on a hillside, with the title: "Feed my Sheep." The sheep are in focus. Everything else fades into the background, fuzzy and without form.

But I wish I had another print for my office. The title of the second one would be "Find My Sheep." Maybe it would be just a hillside...with no sheep in view.

Can I admit something? I've always been better at feeding than finding when it comes to sheep.

People love to be fed. Who doesn't want to be fed? And the good stuff that pastors are given to feed the sheep: life-giving Word, sin-forgiving sacraments. What a job! I don't know a pastor who doesn't find great satisfaction in delivering a good sermon to appreciative members. To be the instrument God uses to distribute the very body and blood of Jesus ... is there anything better?

Rev. Moses Thao, newly installed as Associate Pastor at Redeemer, Manitowoc

Congratulations and God's blessings to Rev. Moses Thao, who was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manitowoc on Sunday, Jan. 25! May God grant His grace and blessings on Pastor Thao and his ministry to the Hmong community in Manitowoc.
Pastor Prada needs volunteers for Sunday school!

Help! Pastor Alfonso Prada has the wonderful problem of needing more help and volunteers for the children of his Sunday school at St. Martini, Milwaukee. His wife, Rosmy, has been doing it all ... but there are too many children! Though many of these children are Hispanic, they know English, so volunteers don't need to know Spanish. We're looking to find enough volunteers so that each volunteer would be needed only once per month. Time frame is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Sundays. Please call me if you'd like to volunteer (414-464-8101). Thanks!

Hispanic outreach in Wisconsin

Click on the picture at right for an 11-minute video highlighting Hispanic ministry in our District. One of the great blessings of my short time as Mission Exec has been getting to know the pastors and people who are working hard to share the Gospel with our Hispanic neighbors and friends, especially on the south side of Milwaukee and in Racine. Please feel free to use this video in whatever context you see fit...after worship, Bible Class, confirmation class, LWML...whatever. A great big thanks to Pastor German Novelli, who put a great deal of effort into it.

LCMS Missionary of the Month
Bill and Nicole Lohmeyer

Bill and Nicole Lohmeyer serve the Lord as LCMS missionaries in the Dominican Republic. As a career missionary, Bill finds ways to make mercy ministry projects, such as the group home for disabled children, financially self-sufficient through the creation of local micro-businesses. He trains workers for these mercy projects and micro-businesses and works with local church plants to create long-term sustainability plans. He also helps coordinate projects being carried out in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Nicole is a GEO missionary and works with the students and staff at Concordia Lutheran School. She is involved with curriculum development and planning, teacher training and student mentoring. Please pray for the Lohmeyer family as they adjust to being in the Dominican Republic.

Congregational Outreach and Personal Witness

I have had the opportunity to share a brief presentation on some basics of congregational outreach and personal witness at several SWD congregations. This particular presentation can be anywhere from one hour to several hours and is suitable for a weekday evening or weekend day. It's not a "program," but rather a conversation starter for ways to share Jesus in our current culture. Please let me know if you'd like to schedule such a presentation for your congregation, or for an LWML or circuit meeting.
Need a guest preacher? My calendar opens up for summer. I'd be happy to preach for a mission festival or District Mission Sunday...or just to give your preacher a break.
