Churches Planting Churches

The South Wisconsin District will be hosting a "Churches Planting Churches" Seminar on
Friday, October 17-Saturday, October 18 at Divine Savior, 3200 Highway K South, Hartford. This seminar is led by the Center for US Missions (an LCMS RSO), and is intended for congregational leaders (pastors and lay leaders) whose congregations are interested in beginning the conversation about the possibility of planting a church.

"A great way to work together with my staff and develop an exciting vision for reaching the lost in our community," (said apastor, MNS).

"It got our group thinking outside the box, thinking of new ways to reach more people!" (said a lay person, IDW).

Even if you aren't sure if your congregation is being called in this direction, the seminar is a great way to explore the possibilities. Why plant churches? So many reasons, but primarily because planting new churches helps us to reach the lost!

Please click here for more information. Registration can be made online (register with a user name and password first), or call Peg Raabe at the District office (414-464-8101).

Professional Church Workers' Conference
November 14, 2014 - Olympia Resort, Oconomowoc

Theme: "Together with Glad and Sincere Hearts" - Acts 2:42-47

Keynote Speaker: Micah Parker

Keynote I - Mighty Warriors

Putting yourself in position to let God do the work. You have been called/chosen (just like Gideon's men) and that changes everything about their daily ministry. You will receive a handout that can be used for your own personal devotions or with a class or youth group.

Keynote II - Servant Leadership

Three steps to go from being a successful leader to an effective one. Christ is the best example of an effective leader and Satan is the best example of a successful one. Micah will share what true service look like, what it means to actually follow (instead of trying to lead God) and how effective God's love is.

Thanks "Giving" Mission

Last year, many individuals and congregations in the South Wisconsin District

provided funds for Thanksgiving meals to families living in the central city of Milwaukee. The meal consists of a turkey and all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The goal every year is to fulfill the requests for Thanksgiving baskets we receive from central city Lutheran pantries in Milwaukee. Last year 1056 baskets were delivered to the pantries, and we have the same goal of 1056 this year. Again this year we will partner with Brookfield Lutheran who has purchased, assembled and delivered Thanksgiving baskets in the central city for many years. Please let me know if you or your congregation would like to help or consider being a host site in the future.

This is where we need your help. You can help by praying for the mission, the individuals who are preparing, assembling and delivering, and for those who receive them. We also ask for financial help. Your generosity not only provides nourishment, it also shows the love you have for your neighbor.

Come and help me share our joy and love to others this Thanksgiving!

Health Care Reform - Large Employer Responsibility
Helpful Tool to Determine Full-time/Part-time Status of Employees for employers who may have at least 50+ full-time employees (including full-time equivalent employees or FTEs).

An infographic providing an overview of the Affordable Care Act )ACA) Employer Shared Responsibility Mandate has been provided to Concordia Plan Services by one of our consultants, Towers Watson. This attached infographic provides the measurements and counting periods necessary to determine full-time and part-time status of employees. You may find this tool helpful in determining if you are a large employer of purposes of the ACA.

Larger employers (employers with 100 or more full-time or full-time equivalent (FTE) employees) may be subject to penalties in 2015 if they do not offer minimum essential coverage, or if the coverage they offer is not affordable or does not proved minimum value. This provision will apply to employers with 50-99 full-time or FTE employees in 2016 due to a delay in enforcement announced earlier this year.
