SEVP - NLSA |
There has been some confusion about whether or not NLSA is an approved accrediting agency for SEVP (the group that regulates school's involvement with international students).
NLSA is on the approved list. See the link below. Please share this information with our schools.

Meemic Grants Fund Projects for teachers
|

Teachers surveyed by the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA) said they spent on average $268 on school supplies in the 2012-2013 school year, $491 on instructional materials and $186 on other classroom supplies for an average total of $945.
Through its grant program, The Meemic Foundation can
help offset some of those out-of-pocket expenses by funding field trips; books for classrooms or libraries; behavior modification programs; materials for science labs, music departments or art projects; technology upgrades; basically anything that supports teachers and enhances the student's educational experience. Teacher professional development is also fundable.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Since 2012, The Meemic Foundation has awarded 118 grants worth $98,700
to the Wisconsin education community.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Grants are accepted all year but are funded quarterly. The third round ($500 max per grant) ends September 30, with funds available in mid-November. The online fill-in-the-blank application, which takes about 30 minutes to complete, makes the grant process simple and convenient to anyone who can use a keyboard.
Any employee of a K-12 public or private school may apply for a grant. There are no restrictions as to the number of teachers who can apply per school or district, so feel free to pass this opportunity on to anyone you think could benefit from a grant.
Visit The Meemic Foundation website for additional information as well as to apply
for a grant.

Please share this information with your school parents.
The purpose of the Herb Kohl Teacher Fellowship program is to recognize and support teaching excellence and innovation in the State of Wisconsin, USA. Our goal is to support teachers in the pursuit of their unrealized goals for their classrooms or professional development. Annually, the Foundation awards one hundred Wisconsin teachers with $1,000 Kohl Fellowship grants, and each Kohl Fellowship recipient's school receives a matching $1,000 grant. Recipients' professional accomplishments are celebrated at a recognition luncheon in the spring. Wisconsin's religious and independent schools receive a proportionate number of the total fellowships awarded each year.
To be eligible to compete for a fellowship, a teacher must be nominated by a: * parent * teacher * student * community member, or * school administrator
Classroom teachers in Pre-K through grade 12 who plan to continue teaching in their current capacity for at least the following year are eligible for nomination.

Lice Policies |
School districts are encouraged to review their lice policies if they have not done so recently. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend allowing students to remain in the school classroom until the end of the day, rather than sending a child home immediately if lice are found. It keeps children in class, as well as reduces the stigma for the child with lice. Parents can be notified and advised to remove or treat the lice before returning to school the next day.
It is also recommended that schools discontinue "no-nit" policies for the following reasons:
- Many nits are more than 1/4 inch from the scalp. Such nits are usually not viable and very unlikely to hatch to become crawling lice, or may in fact be empty shells, also known as casings.
- Nits are cemented to hair shafts and are very unlikely to be transferred successfully to other people.
- The burden of unnecessary absenteeism to the students, families and communities far outweights the risks associated with head lice.
- Misdiagnosis of nits is very common during nit checks conducted by nonmedical personnel.
