So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Matthew 24:44
_______________________________________________________
In all honestly, I'm not ready!
There are a lot of things I'm not ready for, but to clarify, I'm speaking for the beginning of the school year (which I know some have been in class for over a week now). In my conversations
with many of you and your teachers at the kick off for Firm Foundations, I think that was the overwhelming response. However, there were a few, who surprised me with enthusiasm in their voice, who said, "bring it on!"
Regardless of where you are at, the start of the year is here. There's no way to go back in time and redo, or turn back the clock to relive. In essence, the time is now! In the above verse, Jesus was speaking with his disciples about being ready. Do we have that sense of urgency? Living in the past can be comforting, it's what we know. However, living in the past doesn't allow us to envision the future. It doesn't allow us to embrace the opportunity - teaching and sharing our faith with the students entrusted to our care. We make a commitment to our parents to care and love their children, do we also make that commitment to our Heavenly Father? We don't know when Christ will return to claim his own, but we do know that there are students and families in our schools in need of His saving Grace. As I always communicated to new and perspective families to my school, "My number one goal in your child attending this school is that I will see them in heaven." Ya, mentally/physically it might take us a few weeks to get in the swing of things, but let's not waste one second to plant the seed or to continue the nourishment. Let's not be caught unprepared, but with one voice, "Bring it on!" Serving Christ Together, Mark |

8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Concordia University Wisconsin - Terrace Room Mequon
"Marching Off the Map: Pioneering New Territory to Meet the Needs of Students Today" Dr. Tim Elmore
We are marching off the map into a new decade of student development. Baby Boomers challenged educators and leaders with the fascination of the T.V, the one-eyed babysitter. Now Generation Y provides challenges with their need to have a portable device on them at all times. How do we lead this new generation of "firsts"?
In this new speaking event for your school or campus, faculty and staff will learn:
- How students' brains are different today, since they've grown up with pixels and screens
- What educators can do to increase attention spans in students and their grasps of major concepts
- When creativity is most essential and what adults can do to engage students' creativity
- What the critical elements are that we must furnish for student success. And more...
Cost: $100, includes lunch and the book "artificial maturity"
Register online before Monday, September 15.

NLSA Update |
We had a wonderful National Commission meeting. I am so encouraged by the topics we were able to address and the work that was completed. The commission accredited 147 schools (a record number of accreditations processed for a single year.) Commissioners in attendance received specific training for the new Evidence Based Accreditation protocol for elementary schools and information and training related to the AdvancED - NLSA protocol. They took action to raise the annual fee for accredited schools to $450. The National Accreditation Commission directed the office staff to move forward with urgency to implement a proposed paperless electronic submission and storage procedure. Accreditation certificates have been prepared and were mailed to the District office. A complete list of the schools we accredited has been uploaded to the NLSA tab on the Lutheran school portal. I thank God for your continued support and encouragement. Terry L Schmidt Director of Schools The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod National Mission - Life Together

Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, Milwaukee |
Educating Students for This Life and the Next
Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, Milwaukee was featured in the July-August issue of Lutherans ENGAGE the WORLD.
"I can't live without Jesus. That's insanity. He's just built into my heart," says 14-year-old Briana McQuay, who graduated from eighth grade at Mount Calvary Lutheran School in Milwaukee, Wis., in June.
During her third-grade year, Briana transferred to Mount Calvary, the 89-year-old ministry of an LCMS congregation in the urban Sherman Park neighborhood. At that time, Briana says she did not have a personal relationship with Jesus, even though she was raised in a Christian home. She knew who Jesus was, but she did not understand what He did for her until she learned more about Him in chapel and religion classes at Mount Calvary.

Concordia University School - Pilgrim Campus, Wauwatosa |
Re-Opening Doors to Lutheran Education
At a time when many Lutheran schools are closing, the campus across the street from Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, plans to welcome a record 185 students this academic year. Since Concordia University School-Pilgrim Campus (CUS-Pilgrim Campus) opened in 2012, it has added a new grade and more students each year. It's also nearing completion of a $1.5 million, multiphase renovation, made possible with the help of Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF). Without LCEF support, CUS-Pilgrim would not be providing an "unabashedly and unapologetically Lutheran education," says Richard Laabs, president of Lutheran Urban Mission Initiative (LUMIN), the Milwaukee-based network that includes CUS-Pilgrim Campus and five other Lutheran schools in the LCMS South Wisconsin District. "With LCEF's help, we've been able to expand, renovate and make these schools welcoming to 1,600 children," Laabs said. "LCEF has played a vital role, providing the kind of support we couldn't get from a local bank." While a bank considers old school buildings undesirable, "LCEF understands the potential and the impact these schools can have," he said. "Without LCEF, we couldn't do what we're doing."
