THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

_____________________________________________________________

Often, in the midst of great problems, we stop short of the real blessing

God has for us, which is a fresh vision of who He is.

- Anne Graham Lotz

onlineconf6th annual Online Conference on 21st Century Lutheran Education

6th annual Online Conference on 21st Century Lutheran Education
is back this year with a theme of "Engaged and Uncaged Lutheran Education." The event is scheduled for May 15 and 16 and all are welcome. You can attend alone with nothing more than a computer, Internet connection and working speakers. Or, some in the past set up a room with a screen and speakers, and attend one more more sessions as a group. Registration is open and we are still accepting presentation proposals through March. Register today at www.21cle.com.

The Online Conference on 21st Century Lutheran Education is a free online conference dedicated to connecting, inspiring, informing and igniting innovation in Lutheran educators of all kinds (Lutheran schools, public schools, home-based schools, co-ops, independent schools, parishes, para-church ministries, and more). Started in 2009 with 20 presenters and just over 100 participants, the conference has grown each year to thousands of participants either attending live sessions or benefiting from the archive of session recordings. This is the first online conference dedicated specifically to the mission and ministry of Lutheran education.

While managed by a team at Concordia University Wisconsin and made possible by the donation of the technologies and resources of the CUW School of Education and the Office of Continuing and Distance Education, this conference is made possible by volunteer hosts, organizers and presenters from around the world.

CAPECAPE Outlook

Congressman Luke Messer (R-IN) (center), founder and chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus, hosted the group's inaugural meeting March 25 on Capitol Hill.  He was joined by caucus colleagues and parents whose children have directly benefited by choice.

"I am a firm believer that this is the civil rights issue of this generation," said the Congressman.  Access to the American dream of opportunity requires "access to a great education."

"Every cause has its time," he said, and we now have the chance to provide opportunities to parents that were "unimaginable even just a couple of years ago."

Find out more about the caucus in the April issue of Outlook.

PDPPDP Course

The annual PDP course offered at CUW, June 23/24, 2014 for first year Lutheran teachers finishing up this year, who will need to do a PDP for DPI if they want to earn their next 5-yr Professional Teachers License.

This course will assist the 2nd year teacher in the development of a PDP, as required for renewal of the Wisconsin State Teaching License under Wisconsin Statute PI 34. The instructor will assist beginning teachers in writing a reflection of their first year experiences, selecting two teaching standards for their plan, writing goal statements, and planning activities to carry out their plan. The instructor will then serve as the University (IHE) Rep on each student's PDP team.

This course is also offered online, for teachers who might want to use that deliver option.

yelltellYell and Tell

I've had a few responses to the Yell and Tell program. I understand that this is a busy time of year to schedule one more thing. However, I don't want this to fall off the radar.

If your intent is to participate, please send me an email.  The proposed training event will not take place until we have more definitive numbers.
