Survey Identifies Reasons Parents Choose Private Schools

Consider it a reason to press the pause button in the push to judge schools solely by test scores. A new survey of parents shows that assessment results are not even among the top ten reasons why families choose private schools.

Released last month by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, the survey of parents participating in the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program found, "Student performance on standardized test scores is one of the least important pieces of information upon which parents base their decision regarding the private school to which they send their children."

article2IRS Modifies "Use-or-Lose" Rule for Health FSA

Recently Concordia Plan Services shared information via email with you regarding modifications announced by the IRS and U. S. Department of Treasury regarding the "Use or Lose" rule that applies to health Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). For the first time, at the employer's option, employee's participating in health FSAs will be allowed to roll over - instead of forfeiting - up to $500 of unused funds remaining at year-end if the employer elects to offer this new option.  Note, this new rollover is an alternative to the optional grace period (of up to 2.5 months); an employer cannot offer both a grace period and the rollover.

We wanted to alert you that SelectAccount, our vendor partner for FSA administration, will be providing additional information about this new rule to employer representatives via email early this week. This email will include important information and provide examples of how the rule, if elected, will impact account funds and the reimbursement of expenses for your workers.

If you do not directly work with the FSA administration and benefits for your organization, please pass this information along to the person in your organization who is responsible so that he/she can watch for this important communication from SelectAccount.

For you convenience, click general talking points that was distributed earlier about the new rule. For more details about this modification, you can also access information provided by the treasury department by clicking here.
