Passionate Believers... Changing Life
Mission update

"I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice..." (John 10:16)

BETTER TOGETHER

As I've traveled around to  different circuit meetings, I've learned just how different the challenges and joys of ministry are in different regions of our District. The ministry landscape in the central city is completely different than it is in a large suburban or small rural parish. I know, I know...it's a brilliant insight on my part.

And yet what has encouraged me in these often very different circuits is the conversation and collaboration that I see between pastors and congregations. The fact is, we're better together. The assaults from the culture are picking up intensity. We live in a world that is more and more hostile to the Scriptures, more and more hostile to belief in Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation, more and more hostile to any notion of absolute truth. In the face of such hostility, we are better together.

SOS CENTER LOOKING TO RE-OPEN

Many of you have heard that the "Strength of Savior" (SOS) Center, a community center in the city of Milwaukee, which has been supported by LCMS churches for many years - both with dollars and with volunteers - has been closed for over a year. The Center, with the help of the District, is going to re-open.  The SOS Center wants an even stronger relationship with District congregations and hopes to become an RSO (Recognized Service Organization) of the LCMS in the near future.

While the SOS Center has served its urban community around 47th and North Avenue with many programs in years past, it's the programs geared towards the children in the community that are really missed. The after-school tutoring program not only provided some helpful educational help, but also the Christ-centered devotions and caring Christian atmosphere provided a safe place for the community's children.

In order to re-open and once again serve the community with the love of Jesus, we need not only monetary donations, but anyone who is willing and able to help with some maintenance issues (painting, cleaning, landscaping).  If you'd like to help, don't hesitate to talk to me or Mr. Herman Strozier here at SWD (414) 464-8100.

PASTOR PRADA NEEDS A CAR!

You may have heard that Pastor Alphonso Prada  was installed at St. Martini on Friday, September 20th.  The service was a beautiful reminder of uniqueness of Pastor Prada's context at St. Martini.  The service was in both English and Spanish, and included some traditional Hispanic music, favorite Lutheran hymns, and a couple upbeat songs by the students of St. brown-car-icon.jpgMartini school. Pray for Pastor and his wife Rosmy as they settle into  their new ministry!

And...we thought we had a good lead on a car for Pastor Prada, but it fell through.  If you know of anyone who has a solid used car for a fair price, we'd be interested. Let me know. Thank you!

DID YOU KNOW?

THANKS "GIVING" MISSION

Once again the South Wisconsin District (SWD) is partnering with Brookfield Lutheran church to provide "Thanksgiving Baskets" to families and individuals in the central city of Milwaukee, who may not otherwise enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. The meal consists of vegetables, potatoes, rice, yams, apple juice, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pie topping, dinner rolls and a turkey. The goal every year is to fulfill the requests for Thanksgiving baskets we receive from central city Lutheran pantries in Milwaukee. Last year 1032 baskets were delivered. Through your prayers and financial help, together our goal this year is to increase the number of baskets to 1056. Your generosity not only provides nourishment, it also shows the love you have for your neighbor.

Thank you, and may God continue to bless you as you have been a blessing to many others!
