Mission update

"I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice..." (John 10:16)

The Elephant in the Room

I recently received some interesting information from the stats guru at the International Center in St. Louis. From 2003 to 2012, worship attendance in South Wisconsin District congregations declined by 20% (from stats provided by the congregations themselves). The fact that some congregations in our District grew in worship attendance during that period leads us to think that quite a few declined quite a bit more than 20%.

Anecdotally, we all know congregations that are declining, some much more rapidly than we've seen in times past. But it's the elephant in the room... are we talking about it?

LCMS CAMPUS MINISTRY

LCMS U is the new campus ministry initiative of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod through the Office of National Mission. It is the place to connect and support our students, congregations and campus ministries, so that we can boldly bear witness to Christ on our nation's college campuses.

The challenges to Christians on campus are well known. On practically every college campus there are challenges to the Biblical worldview, doctrine, ethics, and practices. Thus, the chief purpose of LCMS U is to encourage, support, and aid students, faculty, and staff in their response to these challenges to the truth of God's Word.

MISSION TRIPS

If your congregation is going on a mission trip and would have room for others to go along, let us know, and we'll publish it here.

Pastor Rob Bolling of Our Savior in Burlington is leading a group to Guatemala in February. As of now, his group is full (although there might be room if he has a cancellation). Pastor Bolling regularly takes trips and would be happy to share with you his experience working with our Lutheran mission there. His e-mail is
r.bolling1@gmail.com

Pastor Dan Schneider of Immanuel in Brookfield is planning a trip to Uganda after Easter, 2014. He would have room for others who might want to come along, as he continues to develop a relationship with our Lutheran mission there. His e-mail is
pastordan@immanuelbrookfield.org.
