 50 Years and still ....
50 years after the 1964 Surgeon General's report on the risks of tobacco use. Americans in greater numbers are still smoking.
Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S., yet more than 45 million Americans still smoke cigarettes. As of 2010, there were also 13.2 million cigar smokers and 2.2 million Americans who smoke tobacco in pipes.
The findings are from the Tobacco Atlas, 4th Edition, show the significant harm, both financial and physical, that tobacco use causes to the smoker and to society at large.

Interestingly, the value of a human life is only $6,000 when tobacco deaths are compared to tobacco industry profits. It's amazing smokers sell their lives so cheaply!

 Ashland Wine Festival a Success ... The 2nd Annual Ashland Wine Festival was held April 26th, and by all accounts, it was a huge success. The event included four Virginia wineries, COTU Brewing, Jim Beam, 60 vendors, live music, great food and a beautiful day... fun was had by all! Plans are being made now for the 3rd Annual Ashland Wine Festival in 2015. Several additional wineries will be added, more attractions including an expanded car show and art exhibit. Yes, we're starting early to make this event bigger and better and all for cancer research! So, get involved now, join the fight against cancer!

Sue Cox named
Promotions Director
Sue Cox was recently named Promotions Director at Wine For Cures. Her impeccable credentials make her the best selection for this very important position. She is a former Miss Richmond and among her many skills, she worked at Media General, Virginia Business Magazine and in the Promotion Dept. of Richmond Newspapers of over 18 years. Sue is a weekly guest on WHAN Radio's "River City Flavor" reporting on home cooking, food history and healthy recipes.
