IAHU President's Message
Ryan Heider
IAHU President

One of my favorite movie lines is in Christmas Vacation. When Clark Griswold's cousin Eddie shows up for a surprise visit in his tenement on wheels, he asks Clark if he is surprised. Clark's response was "Eddie, if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now." That line reminds me of my reaction to the phone call that I received from Vance Nielsen back in July. He told me that he had been hired for a job outside of our industry, and regrettably would not be able to continue to serve as our State President this year. I had to pick myself up off the carpet when he told me I would be taking his place as president for the remainder of his term. With that being said, I am happy for Vance and his family and I wish them the very best in their new endeavor.

As IAHU President Vance had already chosen a theme for this year and it is "Deliver Value." I know that each of us in our association will strive to do that. We know it is up to each of us to show the value of this great association, and help to make a difference within our industry. It is our responsibility and our opportunity, to deliver value to our clients and serve them to the best of our ability.

Our past president, Trent Sutton's theme was "Membership has its Privileges." I believe those privileges we receive as members of this association, allow us to "Deliver Value." We have a strong voice fighting for us at the forefront, back in Washington D.C. We are able to stay informed of the ongoing changes within our industry via the NAHU newswire and the Washington update. We have the opportunity to interact with leaders in our industry at state, regional, national, and capitol conferences. We can learn best practices and new ideas, to help us adjust to the changes in our respective lines of business. We have more than 20,000 licensed health insurance professionals that belong to this great association. With that powerful membership behind us, my hope is that we will continue striving to "Deliver Value!"

We are excited to get the local NIAHU program rolling for the year.  Our first membership meeting will be held on September 18th at McKenzie River in Cd'A from 11:30am-1pm.  Ryan Heider, Idaho Association of Health Underwriter President, will be presenting to us and providing an update on the state exchange as well as other state business.  We will have a special presentation from Your Health Idaho at our October meeting.  Monthly membership meetings will be every third Thursday of the month.

We will have two charitable events this year (details to come) as well as offer a 3 hour CE program in May.  We encourage members to begin making preparations to attend the State meeting in Boise in April.  The Local will provide reimbursement of expenses up to $200 per member. Lastly, we will be working with Your Health Idaho to hold Exchange renewal and re-enrollment meetings in Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston in late November.  Details will first be released at the September 18th membership meeting.

We wish you all a prosperous year!

 Local
Southern Idaho Association of Health Underwriters

The Southern Idaho Association of Health Underwriters have completed 2014-15 Strategic Planning. Our monthly meetings have been scheduled for the year. We are very excited to be working in cooperation with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for a Medicare 101 Town Hall Meeting on September 30 and a Your Health Idaho Agent Meeting on October 28. With the Medicare 101 meeting we are hoping to provide basic knowledge to Medicare recipients and answer any questions they may have on vocabulary, processing, etc.   The Your Health Idaho meeting will provide an update to agents on the process of accessing Your Health Idaho website, submitting business and assisting customers in applying through the exchange.

We have four meetings scheduled in conjunction with Your Health Idaho for re-enrollment meetings in Twin Falls, Burley, Hailey and Jerome. Those meetings will be held at the South Central Community Health offices in each city. We will be providing the agents for those meetings to assist customers wishing to enroll in Your Health Idaho.

Sincerely,
Laura Drake
SIAHU President
