Great Feedback from ADM Nutrition Academy
The 2016 ADM Nutrition Academy was held Monday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 22, in Olathe, KS. Nearly 200 individuals involved in livestock feed sales and nutrition, including ADM feed dealers, ADM feed specialists, managers and industry representatives participated. The purpose of the Academy was to raise the knowledge of those attending in the areas of animal nutrition and management; plus the awareness of specific solutions ADM products provide animal owners and livestock producers. Quality networking was also a key benefit to all. Here's just one response from a veteran ADM feed dealer...

I would like to thank each of you and ADM for the outstanding ADM Nutrition Academy that just concluded. I have been attending 'feed training meetings' for 40 years and can honestly tell you that this was the BEST ONE I have ever attended. The topics were very good and the presenters were well prepared. I also appreciated that the moderators kept everything 'on time' during the day.

Our goal is to continue to grow our business through ADM -- we have a good thing going and only hope it gets better in the years to come. Thanks again for a great two-and-a-half days.

Commercial Swine

Although we're into our summer challenges relative to heat stress, incorporating Thermal Care 4S can still be a prudent decision to alleviate the impact of heat on performance and well-being of the pig.  Thermal Care 4S is designed to elicit specific physiological responses (vasodilation and immune modulation) to assist pigs in dealing with heat stress.  Feeding recommendations are 4 lb/ton for sows and boars, 2-4 lb/ton for grow-finish and 1-2 lb/ton for nursery pigs.

Below is a quick overview from research study S16201 relative to the impact Thermal Care 4S can have to alleviate heat stress as it relates to both physiological and performance factors.  Pigs were fed from approximately 255 lb to heavier market weights.  Some take home messages:
  • Skin temperature of the pigs fed Thermal Care 4S was reduced an average of 0.45°F across the initial four time periods measured.
  • Average daily gain was better at each of the five phases measured compared to control.  Of particular note is that the improvements were seen immediately with a 23% and 25% improvement in gain during the first two seven-day periods.
  • Final body weight increased by 8 lb for the pigs fed Thermal Care 4S.

TC Cumulative chart

These results confirm that Thermal Care 4S can have an immediate impact on alleviating heat stress. You still have the rest of July, August and September to assist your customers in managing their way through some of the challenges associated with heat stress....Good Selling!

Dairy

The following information provided by Bill Earley, Dairy Product Portfolio Manager...

Summer Product Showcase & SEM Boosters--BEAT THE HEAT
We are in the thick of heat and humidity draining production and dairy herd profitability. BEAT THE HEAT with these technologies--they will provide the return on investment required in support of animal productivity, immunity and component production under heat stress conditions.
  • Thermal Care™ -- There is nothing better on the market to help minimize the adverse financial effects of heat stress.  This is one of those products where its cost can be spread across several impactful areas including milk production support, optimizing rumen function and bolstering animal immunity.
  • Enertia® & P95-- To optimize energy intake once degradable fat levels are met in the diet. We have had excellent butterfat response with the new P95.
  • DCAD Plus or Energy Booster K -- Helps replenish potassium lost due to heat stress, helping to maintain butterfat and milk production.
  • Ration Guard®* -- If TMRs are fed once daily and begin to heat, secondary fermentation can occur.  Ration Guard introduction into the TMR during the summer can help prevent this secondary fermentation from occurring, resulting in better TMR intake and maintenance of feed quality.

ADIFO Training -- You Don't Use It, You Will Lose It
All of our dairy representatives and dairy-focused dealers have participated in ADIFO ration balancing  training.  This program provides ADM with a sustainable, state-of-the-art ration balancing program. As you know, as with any computer program, if you don't use it, you will lose the knowledge you have gained.

Ration balancing is the foundation of the value stream we offer our dairy customers.  Being competent in the use of the ADIFO program is therefore critical to your success.
Come this fall, the Dalex program will no longer be available. You have to transfer existing client information to ADIFO, be as proficient as you can be with ADIFO, and be prepared to use this new program before the fall when you also will be extremely busy changing diets.

Again, if you have not used the program or have very little usage since your training session, it is critical that you do so now.

The Dairy Team understands that you will undoubtedly have questions about ADIFO.  The good news is we have an excellent support team in Drs. Jaquette, Lammers and Friesen, who are more than willing to address any questions you may have.

Equine

Biotin Added to All ADM Animal Nutrition® Equine Feeds
Biotin benefits hoof integrity based on its role in keratin-protein synthesis and is needed in the intracellular matrix of the hoof; biotin deficiency has been attributed to hair loss and lackluster hair color in some species. Be sure to inform all your equine feed customers. Biotin will be guaranteed on tags in September.

Introducing NEW ADM Swine Show Feed
(#12368AGN24)
We are excited to announce that we now have a new Swine Show Feed specifically positioned for Customers who buy their feed off the shelf and who are more interested in the participation aspect of a show, than they are in the competition of a show.

ADM Swine Show Feed is a lower cost, complete ration in regular pellet form that is designed for feeding show pigs at local shows. This product is not intended for show pigs that require the extra value provided by MoorMan's ShowTec brand show feed. Swine Show Feed offers a complement of nutrients at an economical price for feeding show pigs from 60 lb to show weight. Unlike MoorMan's ShowTec complete feeds, this product uses collective terms, opportunity ingredients and least cost formulation.

Below is a picture of the bag for Swine Show Feed which should have a very high customer shelf appeal especially to the walk-in Customer buying off the shelf. This product is not eligible for the Livestock Youth Award Program. Manufacturing and availability of this product will be limited based on local demand for this type of product. It will be manufactured in Quincy, IL. Please work with your Manager, Sales Coordinator and Pricing to get it floor stocked or manufactured at additional plants and added to your price list as needed.

When Health & Production Matter CitriStim logo
CitriStim® consists of a unique strain of yeast, Pichia guilliermondii, used in the production of ADM citric acid. As a whole-cell product, CitriStim is consistently rich in immune factors, including nucleic acids, mannans, and beta-glucan. Basic research and extensive field application show that this unique organism exerts a powerful influence on three areas:
  • Immunity. CitriStim triggers key natural body defense mechanisms and immune signaling assists in preserving critical vital nutrients.
  • Gut health. Pathogens adhere to Pichia, instead of intestinal cells, which allows for a more rapid clearing of pathogens and allows for a positive effect on growth.
  • Animal performance. Research shows better performance in numerous species and production systems.
