Roughage Buster®

We have put together our new Roughage Buster offering as part of the Beef "Go Forward" Vision.

Roughage Buster is a supplement designed around proprietary patented ingredients, technologies, and research that improves the efficiency of rumen digestion.  The combination of these components enhance the rumen microbial population's ability to extract more nutrients from forage.  More nutrients derived from forage that is consumed by the animal results in more efficient use of each pound of roughage, making better performance possible.

Roughage Buster logo

Roughage Buster features:

  • Biuret - An ADM exclusive source of slow release non-protein nitrogen that enhances the rumen microbes' ability to more extensively digest forage
  • Hydroxy copper - A rumen bypass source of copper, reducing potential negative interaction in the rumen; independent research validates high mineral absorption to the animal
  • Proprietary source of cobalt - A unique source of cobalt, facilitating better forage digestion for more available energy
  • Magnesium carbonate - A more available source of magnesium with a huge perk that it's highly palatable; no more trying to mask the taste of traditional magnesium sources
  • No added potassium - Forages typically supply ample amounts of potassium
  • Product Forms - Offered in loose form, blocks, and cooked and pressed tubs

The new Roughage Buster products listed below now qualify for automatic discounts under TIER 1* in the 2015 Year-Round Beef Feed Promotion.

AMPTMineral

AMPT mineral is truly a revolutionary mineral in concept and is totally different than any other mineral product available. AMPT mineral encompasses several of the latest technologies in the market, including several unique to ADM. While the beef marketing team believes this to be true, it is only actually true if it is successfully adopted into the market place.

AMPT Logo

The graph provided below shows our monthly tons of AMPT sales since the first of the year. AMPT sales have almost doubled the previous month's sales from January through April, and while we will likely not double April sales for May, it is looking like another very good month. We are on pace to more than exceed our business goals for 2015! AMPT is currently our top selling brand of mineral and our second place mineral is over 1,000 tons behind YTD.

This level of success, along with the sales team's enthusiasm and producer success stories, gives me great confidence in proclaiming that AMPT mineral is truly revolutionary. I want to personally thank all those who have made it the success it is, and also challenge anyone who is not yet a part of this mineral revolution to get on board!

AminoGain® and AminoGro

AminoGain logo

AminoGain® and its technology continues to lead the industry in providing a unique blend of bypass amino acids.  AminoGain has and continues to demonstrate value in many different nutritional applications - cubes and creeps; feedlot ration balancers; and breeding stock development.  In order to help better communicate the purpose of each AminoGain product and its intended use; AminoGain will be subdivided into two product lines - AminoGain and AminoGro.  Both lines will continue to incorporate all the benefits that has encompassed AminoGain.

AminoGain

The AminoGain product line will focus on balancing amino acids in high-concentrate diets.  In these rations, the focus is truly on the "Gain."  There will continue to be differentiation between traditional grain-based rations and those rations taking advantage of higher co-product inclusion.  The AminoGain products will be formulated for lower inclusion within the diet.

AminoGro
In management schemes where the goal is proper and proportionate "Growth" on forage-based diets, ADM will feature AminoGro products.  The AminoGro products balance forage-based diets with the appropriate amino acid profile, whether grazing pastures, feeding cubes and creep, or a predominately roughage based TMR.  These products will typically be fed or incorporated into a TMR at high feeding rates or as a complete feed.

Amino acid balancing is a focus for ADM in both the beef and dairy areas.  Products will be developed to function in each respective area.

Preparations are complete for the 2015 World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 3-5. Organizers estimate around 20,000 people will attend this year's Expo, and we certainly look forward to visiting with current customers and prospects. Please stop by and say hello. We'll once again be in booth #345 in the Varied Industries Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

We've updated our booth, literature pieces and, in addition to our t-shirts for the kids, will have drawings and customer events designed to:

  • Strengthen our brand and product platforms
  • Say "thank you" to our many current customers
  • Generate new leads/prospects for our colleagues not only in the United States but around the world.

Once again, we look forward to seeing you in Des Moines.

MotivAte

Thought I'd share the last five nursery close-outs I've received over the last two to three weeks. These come from three different customers, and all are relatively new customers within the last 6-12 months.

I followed up with a quick call to each individual for feedback and below are several of their comments:

  • Impressed with the consistency of the MotivAte program
  • Less fall back pigs -- less issues with lighter weight pigs
  • Pigs are more even as they enter the finisher
  • Heavier pigs coming out of the finisher on similar days
  • Can close out buildings quicker -- less non-marketable pigs

As often is the case, our best advertising and marketing is what our customers tell other producers about our products, our service and our support.

Background
Cold pelleting differs from the conventional pelleting processes by eliminating the standard conditioning step involving the use of steam and elevated temperatures. In the cold pelleting process, liquid binders are used in place of steam. The binders are animal feed ingredients that have viscous and cohesive properties. When the liquid binder is applied to feed ingredients, free moisture penetrates solid particles in the meal while the sticky substances agglomerate fine particles into larger particles and then remains on the surfaces of the large solid particles, creating a cohesive surface. When the resulting mash is compressed through a die, the particles are compacted and bound together to form pellets having enhanced durability with a substantial reduction in fines. In fact, a screening step to remove and recover "fines" is usually unnecessary.
Cold Pellet Tech logo
Advantages of ADM's Patented Cold Pelleting Technology
  • Elimination of steam conditioning and elevated temperatures which allows inclusion of heat sensitive and labile ingredients, such as enzymes, microbials, and milk protein which are subject to loss of potency or degradation at high temperatures
  • Reduction in dust and fines due to improved pellet durability
  • Enables use of higher inclusion amounts of fat and liquid feed ingredients
Commercialization
Higher liquid inclusion rates with cold pelleting have given ADM the ability to create pelleted feeds that are similar in nutrient profile and smell to conventional texturized feeds, while also providing handling benefits associated with pelleted feeds. These benefits include:
  • Feed stays fresh longer compared to texturized feed
  • Enables usage of similar amounts of molasses in formula compared to texturized feed
  • Doesn't dry out like texturized feed
  • Free flowing; less prone to caking and bridging associated with texturized feed
Sweet Unique™
Sweet Unique feeds have been developed using ADM's patented cold pellet processing.  Studies have been conducted at commercial calf raising operations and at Pennsylvania State University to determine differences in performance between conventional texturized and cold pelleted calf starters. Refer to the new Tech Edge for details on calf performance and feed intake data.
  • Sweet Unique is a viable alternative to classic texturized feeds (ADM Trial D13102)
  • Sweet Unique performs equally with texturized feed at Pennsylvania State University (ADM Trial D14101)
Please review the corresponding Bottom Line reports that illustrate the economic returns Sweet Unique can deliver to your customers' bottom line.

You can download this and other forthcoming reports from our Portal page >> www.service.admani.com/TheBottomLine (Departments > Research > Bottom Line Reports tab)

World Pork Expo

MoorMan's® ShowTec® will again have their display tent set up outside, near the hog barn, during the 2015 World Pork Expo, scheduled for June 3-5 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. We hope to see you there!

Introducing ADM's New MoorMan's ShowTec Sale Burst CTC/DEN #21206AYWE4

First there was Burst, then there was Final Burst - and now introducing NEW MoorMan's ShowTec Sale Burst CTC/DEN

Sales Burst Product Positioning
Sale Burst is a complete mini-pelleted feed designed for today's starting/growing show pigs being fed for show pig sales or for pigs in early exhibition feeding programs. It is formulated for feeding to show pigs weighing 35 to 75 lb body weight.
Sale Burst (#21206AYWE4) will completely replace Sale Prep. As inventories of Sale Prep are depleted at the location you receive feed from - its availability will be ended and new Sale Burst will be its replacement.

New Sale Burst has been previewed by some top feeders. They have told us it has excellent palatability and is just the right combination they are looking for to bridge the gap for the pigs at the stage after Burst - but before our developers/finishers. It combines the goodies in Burst and Final Burst - but designed to give the look needed by pigs at this stage. Join the top feeders that evaluated it - and responded to us by saying they are "all in" with this new product - that it is just what they needed.

The new product page is available on the portal and the Swine Quick Reference Guides have been updated with Sale Burst replacing Sale Prep.

Discontinuing #12006AXU ShowTec Sale Prep Starter
As a result of the FDA's GFI 213 changes to antibiotic use, Zoetis has discontinued Aureo S-P 250 Type B Medicated Feed, as it contained penicillin and a production claim (growth promotion and feed efficiency). The new FDA approved use excludes penicillin and the production claim. ADM Alliance Nutrition will be switching product medication as soon as our current inventory has been depleted. Currently, #12006AXU ShowTec Sale Prep Starter is the only show feed product sold within the past year containing the Aureo S-P 250 medication.

ADM's MoorMan's® ShowTec® AminoGain Goat
This product has been embraced by the show goat industry and the product has achieved consistent growth as the word has spread. As soon as current supplies are depleted, we will be increasing the energy content by increasing the fat level from 3% to 4% to help soften goats up just a bit.

New ShowTec® Bags and Bag Standards

The link below will take you to the new ShowTec bag designs, and the products that go in each bag. Please note that the transition will be based on inventories at each plant. Unfortunately, since current inventories vary between plants, this changeover will be a gradual process. Please work to inform your customers of these changes with our bags.

Feed Coupon Updates

We have completed over a year of offering coupons. The results have been an increase in sales for those dealers using coupons. The most widely used coupons have been the pre-printed coupons given to customers by dealers in their stores or at promotional events. Since these coupons are handed out close to the point-of-purchase, the pre-printed coupons have been the most effective in generating sales and repeat business. The current pre-printed coupon offers available are:

Patriot® -- $15 off 20 bags loyalty coupon

Pen Pals® Rabbit -- $20 off 20 bags loyalty coupon

Proud Paws® Pet Foods -- $20 off 10 bags loyalty coupon

Pen Pals Chicken -- $2.00 off one bag (see details in 2015 Chick Days below)

GRO & GLO Equine Event Days -- $5.00 off one bag

ShowTec® Event Days -- $4.00 off one bag

The on-line coupons have expired and will not be renewed. However, we will use on-line coupon offers in the future for special product promotions, such as new products or as an incentive for a customer to try one of the higher value products. We would encourage you to utilize the pre-printed "loyalty coupons." These are index card size coupons, and it is recommended the dealer keep them at their place of business. When the customer returns to make a purchase, it is noted on the back of the coupon. Once the total number of purchases has been fulfilled on the loyalty coupon, the coupon can be redeemed. The loyalty coupon will keep the customer coming back to the store. Below is an example of the Patriot loyalty coupon, front and back:

Lessons learned this year that will improve the speed in which payments are received for submissions:

  • Create an invoice to list the coupons in the submission
  • Use the business name and address as the return address on the envelope.
  • Personal addresses have been denied payment by the clearing house
  • Have a tracking number set up for large dollar submissions
  • Keep a copy of your submissions
