The opening of ADM Feed & Pet Depot in Nappanee, Indiana, replaces the former Nappanee Farm Store to better position the business as being a premier supplier of ADM commercial livestock feed, specialty feeds, and show feeds. A recent ribbon-cutting showcased a new location in a 10,000 square foot refurbished building, which is located across the street from the ADM Alliance Nutrition feed plant in Nappanee.
New ADM Feed Banners!
Two new ADM banners are now available for ordering. These banners are suitable for a wide variety of uses. They both feature the prominent ADM logo, and would enhance a feed display in retail stores and other feed facilities, and have potential at trade shows, open houses, etc. Please use the form number when ordering these banners from Business Services.

Commercial Swine
We've been fortunate over the last several months having favorable ingredient costs and meat prices. Over the past month we've seen a decline in market prices and most recently, a substantial increase in soybean meal prices. Utilizing synthetic amino acids allows producers to utilize less soybean meal while maintaining appropriate amino acid levels. Many producers may inventory lysine, threonine and methionine, but in many cases are looking for a convenient way to utilize these ingredients/technologies. Amino Acid Balancer Pack-HL (12147) can be fed depending on the ingredient base at 5-15 lb/ton, with each pound replacing approximately 13 lb of high protein soybean meal. Don't hesitate to contact Dr. Kevin Soltwedel or Joel Wenninghoff to review how this strategy might fit with current customers or prospects. Mycotoxin Concerns As we continue to work thru old crop feedstuffs, we've seen periodic mycotoxin challenges across the country. I've also been asked multiple times, with the wet conditions we've seen in many areas this summer, what challenges may lie ahead? I'd encourage all of you to review Technical Edge, Strategies for Minimizing the Impact of Mycotoxins. This publication provides a great overview of mold/mycotoxin basics, effects and prevention strategies. The second component is treating mycotoxins via an nutritional aid, such as Biofix®* Plus. Including Biofix Plus (Product Tag) at 1-5 lb/ton will provide benefits when animals are challenged with mycotoxins. With the influx of commodities we're typically dealing with coming from multiple sources and locations, routinely evaluating inclusion is certainly warranted. *Not a trademark of ADM

Thanks for your continuing support.

Dairy
The following information provided by Bill Earley, National Dairy Accounts...
World Dairy Expo is Coming and ADM is Ready!
The world's premier dairy event, the World Dairy Expo, takes place in Madison, Wisconsin, from September 30-October 4. Each year this event provides an opportunity for ADM to showcase new products and programs. Each year the ADM Alliance Nutrition Dairy Leadership Team discusses what we want to accent.
We are excited about our exhibit this year. With the coordination of our new trade show exhibition team in Quincy, we have developed a program that combines producer awareness prior to the show of what we will be highlighting, focus on the ADM dairy value proposition, select ADM proprietary technologies and dairy-focused animal health programs. Kim Boccardi and Pam Norsworthy have been great assets to our team in establishing a multi-faceted approach to the show.
One of our objectives is to position ADM as the Dairy Solutions® provider. We will be highlighting the Dairy Solutions value proposition while focusing upon three specific areas 1.) Maximizing Milk Margin 2.) Optimization of Health & Reproduction and 3.) Achieving Sustainability and how ADM can help producer's succeed in these critical areas.
Product focus will be on Sweet Unique™ and specific ADM proprietary technologies, including CitriStim®, Thermal Care™ and RumeNext®-D, as well as dairy-focused animal health products.
We will be taking both an audio and visual approach at the booth with video loops on the products we are accenting and new one-page dairy-focused animal health sales sheets on our Rumen Enhancement, Immune Support, Specialized Transition & Calf, Nutritional Aid and Reproductive Health products available.
The booth will be manned with some of our professional dairy specialists from across the country and there will also be a Dairy Team meeting on Wednesday, October 1, coinciding with World Dairy Expo.
We also will be providing some enticing give-aways to accent ADM, including the ever so popular stress cows, premium flash lights for customers, and will be drawing for four Computer Tablets, to be given away Tuesday through Friday.
Multiple pre-show correspondence will invite producers to visit our booth, information about the Expo and prizes available will be sent to our dealers, sales team and producer customers. It will be important for our sales team to follow-up to ensure that this information gets into the hands of our key dairy customers and important prospects.
We look forward to having an excellent World Dairy Expo and will also have follow-up action that will be important in making this event as successful as possible.

R&D/Innovation News
NEW! Bottom Line Report - DDGS Value Changes for Dairy Cattle
Background The livestock industry recognizes that DDGS can range from 4% to 10.5% fat and 26% to 31.5% protein. The Dairy Technical Group at ADM has also discovered differences in the rumen undegradable protein (RUP) levels for different distillers grains byproduct (DDGS) sources. This can create gaps in RUP dairy feed formulation that increase the ration cost to compensate for DDGS's lower RUP value.
Supplementing high producing cows with adequate rumen bypass protein has been shown to improve milk production, milk protein composition, and feed efficiency, creating additional revenue for dairy producers.
For dairy cattle, RUP lysine and methionine have a higher value than rumen degradable protein (RDP).
- Blood meal, Arsoy®, and soybean meal can be used as substitute ingredients to calculate value differences for RUP and RDP level of distillers grains (refer to Table 3 of the attached report).
- The 4% fat DDGS has much lower RUP lysine and methionine levels, requiring almost $75 additional amino acid supplementation per ton to equal the 7% or 10% fat DDGS levels.
- The lower RUP level of the 4% fat DDGS creates an increased level of RDP compared to the other sources of distillers grains. This additional RDP has a $53/ton advantage if it was provided from other sources.
Implications*
- Combining these valuations results in the 4% fat DDGS having a lower nutritional value between $18.38 to $21.46 per ton compared to 7% fat or 10% fat DDGS sources.

Second CropTM/Forage
John Klein
Second Crop/Forage Update
It's hard to believe that our summer is slipping away so quickly. In the past month-and-a-half our Second Crop applicator team members have been challenged to learn as much as they possibly can about forage management. We have received a wealth of information from our suppliers as well as from our own sales specialists. We are planning to continue to train over the next year with suppliers and seasoned sales specialists as time allows.
It's amazing how our team views forage management today with the intense trainings we have had. It's like a light got turned on. I catch myself paying a lot more attention to silage piles, covers, cut hay, bales and the intense "process" of putting up good forage. Because of this focused training, I find myself stopping to take pictures of piles and just realizing the potential in this area. I see countless opportunities to help customers and prospects by bringing them information that will help manage their forage. With our Second Crop treatments, we get to see all types of operations and management skills. There is a very clear separation on the quality of forage when it's managed correctly. Our best Second Crop piles are at locations were total forage management is top-notch. You can look at other silages and see how well they are managed. When we go onto farms today we make it a priority to encourage the producer to do the right things to make a good pile.
Cross-training the Second Crop team has some unique benefits. When they are on a farm for a day or possibly even weeks, they get the opportunity to have several conversations with the producer while they are treating. During this time, they offer suggestions on making better silage, haylage, hi-moisture corn, earlage and such. It opens doors and allows for a "soft sell" for the producer to think about.
I know we all have a lot on our plates today, but I would like to ask that you take time to evaluate your customers' forages. If you choose just one forage management tool to focus on with your customers, I think you will be surprised at how much money you will save them and the value that it will bring to your relationship with that customer.
Another thing to think about now is corn silage harvest. I'm sure the guys down south are getting equipment ready and it's a great time to ask about silage preservatives. Getting them to talk about it early gets them focused on it. It also helps us manage inventory better as well. Thanks for your time and have a safe summer!
