AMPT Product Pages

As I mentioned last month, many who are reading this are already familiar with our new mineral, AMPT, which will soon be introduced. If you are not, please read the following brief overview. AMPT, which is an acronym for Advanced Mineral Performance Technology, is a very exciting new beef mineral product which, as the name suggests, capitalizes on some new and exciting technology. While I don't have the space here to give a full description, rest assured you will be hearing and seeing much more about AMPT.

We have been working on this product for almost a year, seeking input from sales team members, developing the formulations, the name, and marketing material. The final barrier passed was getting the logo cleared and trademarking the AMPT name and logo. We are now sharing more information on the products and are currently getting bags printed in time for production in the next couple of months. You can view the new bag graphics by clicking the links above.

AMPT has been being tested in several markets to get consumption and producer responses. So far, we have sold over 100 tons and responses continue to come back very positive. AMPT is currently being made in Abilene (KS) and Comanche (TX) with plans to manufacture in Quincy (IL) as well. These will be the three plants to produce AMPT, until the market dictates evaluating other production facilities.

A soft launch of AMPT is scheduled this summer and then a national launch is planned at the 2014 National Angus Convention and Trade Show in Kansas City in early November, and continuing at the National Cattlemen's Beef Assoc. Convention in San Antonio in February 2015.

We are very excited about this new mineral line and look forward to informing and training as many people as possible on this new and impressive line of range minerals. Reserve the date for the first AMPT webinar below. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or other members of the beef team for more information: Jeff Hill, Chris Hagedorn, Dan Knoll, or Kent Egbert.

AMPT Product Training Webinar

You won't want to miss the first AMPT Beef Minerals Product Training webinar, to be scheduled soon. Be on the lookout for the webinar invitation, and encourage your dealers to participate in the webinar. It's about time to get AMPT!

Commercial Swine

Genetic improvement and designing feeding programs that address today's prolific reproductive performance is imperative as we look how the industry has changed over the past number of years.  Case in point, I was recently asked to participate in a quarterly meeting to review performance at a sow unit we've worked with for a number of years.  Since January 1st of this year, I pulled several key indicators of reproductive performance from the unit's first quarter of production:
  • 13.10 pigs born alive per sow
  • 11.48 pigs weaned per sow
  • 30.39 pigs/sow/year
Impressive - as we reviewed current nutritional specifications versus performance, it was fairly straight forward to target appropriate formulations.  We spent more time visiting with the production team on the day-to-day challenges they faced given the reproductive demands they were experiencing.  I pulled up the following two Technical Edges during our discussion which do a nice job of outlining what we're trying to accomplish relative to formulations, but more importantly, with some key management strategies.  We came away as a group highlighting several recommendations, taken from these Technical Edges, to implement and follow up at their next quarterly meeting.

What was also gratifying was hearing all the positive comments about the MotivAte™ Starter Programs, as these pigs transitioned into nursery and wean-to-finish facilities.  If you're new to the Company, or simply have some new swine prospects you'd like to visit with, take time to review the MotivAte Products.

Sweet Unique™ Calf Feeds

Sweet Unique 18% Calf Starter, Sweet Unique 20% Calf Starter and Sweet Unique 16% Calf Grower are now available in many areas. Now is a great time to take a look at some of the key resource materials we have available for this new line of products. Product pages for all three of these products are now available. A Sweet Unique Rack Card for calf feeds is also available, and can be ordered from Business Services. A new bag has been designed for these products, and should be available soon. Sweet Unique research trials are approaching completion. To date, the results have looked very impressive, and will be available in the near future.

Forage Inoculants

It won't be long before it is time to start harvesting spring forages. Inoculants play a vital role in all good forage programs. Research from leading universities has shown the following benefits when using a good quality inoculant on fermented forages: Increased dry matter recovery, improved fermentation profiles, improved bunk stability and increased milk production. ADM Alliance Nutrition offers a number of excellent inoculant products. Refer to Super Sile, Pro-Silage Builder®, Pro-Silage StabilizerTM, and ECOSYL®*. Silo-Guard II®** is another preservative you may want to consider.

R&D/Innovation News

Good afternoon colleagues and friends,

Providing solutions to the challenges that producers and our customers face daily is the core of our business. Technical information, research findings and new products don't matter unless they are made to work, first and foremost; everything else we do is secondary. We strive every day to aid our customers in meeting their economic potential and deliver impactful returns to their bottom line.

The below, Bottom Line Report, is the first in a new series of publications to increase the visibility of ADM Alliance Nutrition researched and proven products and programs. Through these communications you will see how relevant and impactful ADM can be with our customers.

Stay tuned and good selling!

NEW! Bottom Line Report - DS Sweet Unique Calf Starter

Sweet Unique logo

Background

A field research study was conducted with dairy calves to compare the effects of feeding a commercial texturized starter (TX) to Sweet Unique™ cold pelleted starter (PL) on growth performance and intake of milk replacer fed dairy calves. Both starter feeds provided comparable nutrient profiles.

  • These data (refer to report at the above link) suggest that calves fed Sweet Unique cold pelleted calf starter will outperform those receiving texturized calf starter.
  • Table 2 indicates a true economic benefit to feeding Sweet Unique, with lower feed cost of gain and decreased total feed cost to bring calves to an equal weight.
  • If both treatments were fed to 225 pounds body weight, a total feed savings of $15.86 per calf would have been attained.

Overall, this study would suggest that Sweet Unique calf starters are superior to texturized feeds in acceptability, performance and economics. Further data is being collected in multiple locations across the US to support these findings.

Watch your inbox for "The Bottom Line" updates from the Research and Innovation teams. You can download this and other forthcoming reports from our new Portal page >> www.service.admani.com/TheBottomLine (Departments > Research > Bottom Line Reports tab)

Thermal Care™ R Coldsprings Farms Spotlight

Thermal Care R (dairy) Coldsprings Farms Spotlight 09-13

Thermal Care logo

Matt and Debbie Hoff own and operate Coldsprings Farms near New Windsor, MD. The origin of their Carroll County family farm can be traced back to 1869. Matt and his wife took ownership of the farm in 2005. Today, Coldsprings Farms, one of the largest dairies in the state of Maryland, consists of 980 registered Holstein cows. Additionally, they farm around 2200 acres. [more]

In the spring of 2013, the Hoff's completed construction of a new barn to house some of their milk cows. At the start of the summer, fan installation in the new barn had not been completed. In June, with summer heat looming, Matt decided to include Thermal Care R in one of his lactation groups to help cows deal with upcoming heat stress. In conjunction with ADM Alliance Nutrition, a field demonstration was set up, whereby one of the groups in the new barn was fed Thermal Care. A second group served as a control with no Thermal Care. [more]

CLICK HERE to read the full testimonial spotlight and learn how the Hoff family's Holstein cows performed on Thermal Care R.

The first 100 customers to complete our TCR Product Performance Review, available at the link below, will receive a Thermal Care gift. The survey should take them less than 5 minutes and is accessible via an iPad or iPhone. Contact Kim Boccardi if you need a printer-friendly pdf version emailed to you. Reference Resources

Three excellent resources have recently been added to the Specialty section on the Portal under the Presentations, Educational tab. At your convenience you may review the following:

Advertising/Customer Awareness

To support and promote the most complete nutritional fawn/calf starter in the commercial wildlife industry, TraceMaxFawn Starter, 81482AAA, a full-page ad will appear in the spring issue of the North American Deer Farmer magazine. You may find this ad posted on the Specialty page on the Portal under Advertising.

To recognize the measurable and positive difference of Thermal Care, a half-page ad will appear in the May issue of The North American Elk Breeders Journal. This ad is also posted on the Specialty page on the Portal under Advertising.

New Deer & Elk Feeds

Check the Portal for the product pages for six, new performance-oriented deer and elk feeds. After a thorough review of current core and custom deer feeds, these new core products will meet or exceed the nutrition expectations for commercial wildlife operators. Whole herd nutrition, not just antler production, is the focus for producers of bigger bodied and healthier animals in this ever-increasing competitive industry. Here are some of the product benefits that meet the "new normal" nutrition requirements that top-performing commercial wildlife producers are seeking.

  • Multiple protein sources and balanced amino acid profile
  • Direct-fed microbials
  • Increased fat level from stabilized rice bran and grain sources
  • CitriStim®
  • Increased calcium/phosphorus ratio
  • NSE and increased vitamin E level
  • Increased vitamin D level
  • Garlic and Thermal Care options

Introducing High Caliber™ Deer Block 81654AAA6A
