Roughage Buster® Update
We have created a new Roughage Buster product, 54204 Roughage Buster 60 EF (with Endo-Fighter®). Not only does it contain the Endo-Fighter package, but also features some formulation enhancements. This product now contains more salt to better manage the targeted intake level of 0.5 lb/day, and also contains an enhanced level and source of magnesium to better match forage deficiencies. Some key trace mineral enhancements were also made to both improve response of the animal and the rumen. This product actually has been out in the field for several months being fed by selected producers who report intake and performance has been very good. With this positive feedback and field testing, we are now ready to take the opportunity to introduce it to the ADM Alliance Nutrition Team.
As part of this introduction, we are adding 54204 Roughage Buster to the current Range Mineral Beef Promotion, effective January 13, 2014. In the weeks to come, we will be retooling the entire Roughage Buster product line-up to match the formulation enhancements of 54204 Roughage Buster 60 (not incl. Endo-Fighter package). We will be updating our marketing material concerning this product line.
Roughage Buster is a key value product in our beef range line-up for both our producers and for the Company and will get more focus and attention as we move forward. Please stay tuned as we announce updates to the Roughage Buster product line in the near future.

Commercial Swine
We've had a number of customers who have recently had on-farm audits by packing plants or firms representing plants to review various protocols associated with their production systems. These reviews include cleanliness, environment, animal husbandry and record-keeping, to name a few. One somewhat consistent item has been the posting of biosecurity signs at each site. Just a quick reminder that ADM biosecurity signs are available at Business Services in Quincy. The use of these signs are a great way to assist with customers' needs and represent ADM Alliance Nutrition.
The stocking number is SM0036-0811.
MotivAteTM Close-out Info
Kevin Burgau, ADM ANI Swine Specialist in Minnesota, recently shared a close-out from one of his customers feeding the MotivAte Starters. I just wanted to share some more good news:
- 2,544 pigs with a beginning weight of 14.2 lb
- Pigs came out of the nursery in just 39 days weighing 54 lb
- ADG was 1.04 with a relatively short term stay in the nursery
- Pigs ate 1.49 lb/day and feed conversion was 1.43
These are outstanding numbers and push the total number of pigs we have data on to about 90,000. I encourage each of you to make a new year's resolution of sharing this information with two to three key prospects as we rollover the calendar to 2014.
Merry Christmas to you and your families--be safe.

Dairy
Over the past month, we have added two new products to our calf line-up, based on specific needs in the marketplace. They are:
- 35124ZAP NurseTrate Classic Treatment NT 1600:1600 (with 1600 gm/ton Oxytetracycline and 1600 gm/ton Neomycin). This is a treatment level of NT, and is designed to be fed for 7-14 days to treat bacterial scours and to help control pneumonia. With the health challenges that calf raisers face during the winter months, this new product should fill a real need. If you have specific questions concerning price or availability, please drop Brooke Klauser an email. A product page will soon be available on the Portal.
- 35154AAA Electrolyte System Base. This package of electrolytes, formulated by Land O' Lakes, provides nutritional support for calves during times of dehydration. Key ingredients include dextrose, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, potassium chloride, potassium citrate and B vitamins. Feeding rate will be one scoop (77 grams) mixed in two (2) quarts of warm water, fed twice daily. It will be packaged in 25-lb bags.
Cold Weather Feeding for Calves
Winter has arrived in most regions of the country. It is time to remind your customers how cold weather affects their calves' nutrient requirements. Cold weather demands a higher plane of nutrition, especially energy! The thermo neutral zone for calves three weeks of age or less is 68 to 82 degrees F. Calves 22-49 days of age become cold stressed at 42 degrees F. With the onset of cold weather, calves' energy requirements increase dramatically. A 20-20 milk replacer, fed two (2) quarts twice daily, will result in strictly meeting maintenance requirements, with no energy remaining for weight gain at temperatures below the thermo neutral zone. Even in the most extreme weather conditions, calves can grow well, and remain healthy, provided they are well-nourished. And never forget, calf performance prior to weaning has a big influence on future lactation performance.
