Commercial Swine  MotivAte logo

We continue to hear positive comments back from the field relative to the MotivAte Starter program. In a recent conference call with key swine sales people, the feedback reported from their customers was very consisitent.:

  • Great feed intakes
  • Consistent performance as pigs transition from pelleted to grind and mix products
  • Fewer "fall back" pigs resulting in less variation
  • Heavier weights out of the nursery

Below are up-to-date close-outs I've received on the new MotivAte Program. These come from colleagues in Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Nebraska since September 1, 2013. These close-outs represent approximately 80,000 total pigs, 28 individual groups and about 2,900 head per group. I really appreciate the time and effort individuals have made in compiling and sharing this information with our entire team. We'll continue to update and share this summary as we move forward with additional information.

I'd encourage everyone to use these demonstrations as a prospecting tool. You can feel comfortable knowing that the MotivAte program and products, in addition to our internal research we shared at our launch meetings, are being validated on a daily basis with customers across the country.

Good selling!

Dairy

Over the past month, we have added two new products to our calf line-up, based on specific needs in the marketplace. They are:

  • 35124ZAP NurseTrate Classic Treatment NT 1600:1600 (with 1600 gm/ton Oxytetracycline and 1600 gm/ton Neomycin). This is a treatment level of NT, and is designed to be fed for 7-14 days to treat bacterial scours and to help control pneumonia. With the health challenges that calf raisers face during the winter months, this new product should fill a real need. If you have specific questions concerning price or availability, please drop Brooke Klauser an email. A product page will soon be available on the Portal.
  • 35154AAA Electrolyte System Base. This package of electrolytes, formulated by Land O' Lakes, provides nutritional support for calves during times of dehydration. Key ingredients include dextrose, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, potassium chloride, potassium citrate and B vitamins. Feeding rate will be one scoop (77 grams) mixed in two (2) quarts of warm water, fed twice daily. It will be packaged in 25-lb bags.

Cold Weather Feeding for Calves

Winter has arrived in most regions of the country. It is time to remind your customers how cold weather affects their calves' nutrient requirements. Cold weather demands a higher plane of nutrition, especially energy! The thermo neutral zone for calves three weeks of age or less is 68 to 82 degrees F. Calves 22-49 days of age become cold stressed at 42 degrees F. With the onset of cold weather, calves' energy requirements increase dramatically. A 20-20 milk replacer, fed two (2) quarts twice daily, will result in strictly meeting maintenance requirements, with no energy remaining for weight gain at temperatures below the thermo neutral zone. Even in the most extreme weather conditions, calves can grow well, and remain healthy, provided they are well-nourished. And never forget, calf performance prior to weaning has a big influence on future lactation performance.

Loomix®   Ore-Bac logo

by Bethany Jenkins

Loomix Product Highlight
Loomix range products, featuring Ore-Bac®, encompass a signature supplementation program designed to facilitate enhanced gastrointestinal function, and encourage optimum forage utilization by providing a readily available, highly fortified, protein, vitamin, and mineral package.

Ore-Bac complements high-forage diets for cattle by delivering a complex trace mineral package, offering consumption control and convenience. It is made from carefully selected ingredients which help to increase the ability of rumen microbes to break down fiber, improving overall digestive efficiency.

The ruminant animal is designed to digest forages; but on low-quality forages, the rumen fiber-digesting microbes may not receive all the required nutrients. By providing additional supplementation, such as Ore-Bac, the efficiency at which the fiber-digesting microbes function can be enhanced, ultimately improving the amount of nutrition the animal derives from the forages consumed. Ore-Bac liquid feed supplement provides the proper combination of ingredients and nutrients that contribute to the superior performance of the Loomix product line.

Adding Loomix in supplementation programs also helps entice appetite and facilitates health, ultimately encouraging cattle to reach their genetic potential!

For more information on the Ore-Bac product, call 800-870-0356 or click here.

54222BDE Calf Grower 18% FBZ

54222BDE Calf Grower 18% FBZ has been identified as appropriate for minor species by ADM Alliance Nutrition nutritionists and is included in an updated list of products in SOP-26A.

Whitetail or Elk feed customers should consult with their veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism. Calf Grower 18% FBZ will provide 56.75 mg/lb of FBZ as a one day, single therapeutic treatment by feeding 4.90 lb of 54222BDE per 100 lb of bodyweight.

11606 Wildlife Ruminant Dewormer FBZ has no label recommendation for whitetail deer or elk.

Understanding Minor Species SOP-26

The recording of the SOP-26 Medicated Feeds for Minor Species training webinar on 9/16/13 is posted on the Specialty Feed portal page for your review and understanding of this important information.

Also, an additional reference is provided by Marty Smith, Regulatory Compliance Manager. As a follow up and aid to all ANI colleagues in the understanding of the FDA Compliance Policy Guide and SOP-26, the Extra-label use letter explains the background of the guide, the responsibilities of ANI colleagues in providing medicated products to minor species, and a list of products that have been reviewed as appropriate for minor species by our nutritionists.

The SOP-26 and updated 26A are located on the portal under the QA and Regulatory Compliance tab. As new products are approved, the portal page is updated.

Rack Plus® Wildlife Tub (81597AAA6G) Discontinued/Replaced

In the on-going review of existing products for opportunity to remove duplication and overlap of application, two similar Hunter/Sportsman wildlife products were considered for consolidation to a single product offering:

When the current 81597AAA6G inventory in Quincy is depleted, no further product will be produced for floor stock. The High Caliber Deeration tub is floor stocked and recommended as the replacement. The 100 lb High Caliber tub provides equality in form size, ingredient composition, nutrition and palatability at a more favorable price point for our dealers, allowing them more retail pricing flexibility. Please note the High Caliber tub package is light tan vs. the black Rack Plus tub.

Contact Jim Sours with your questions and thank you for your cooperation in making this transition.
