AminoGain®: Should it be fed only during the grower phase or continually throughout the grower and finisher phases?
ADM Alliance Nutrition's Experiment Number B12202 addresses this question. The objective in this experiment, conducted by Dr. Aimee Lutz, Manager of Ruminant Research, ADM Alliance Nutrition, was to compare feeding AminoGain (AG) technology only during the grower phase to only during the finisher phase, during both the grower and finisher phases, and to no AG fed in either phase.

The initial AG recommended feeding program was to feed the product only during the grower phase from 500 lb to 900 lb body weight, then finish the cattle on a normal finishing ration. However, because of closeouts from field trials reporting that the product was also effective in the finisher phase, a trial was conducted at ADM Alliance Nutrition's research farm in Mendon, IL, to evaluate the most effective feeding program for AG.

Commercial Swine

Recently, we've had a number of calls relative to products which address meat- and antibiotic-free fed pigs.  As a Company, we have a product line well-positioned to meet this growing market.  Follow the link below to review the Quick Reference Guide and ADM Alliance Nutrition's MAF program.

One additional product, not included in the guide, is a 40% Swine MAF Concentrate (12282AAA).  This product, which can simply be mixed with corn, has fit in well with specific customers participating in these niche marketing programs.

Dairy

Due to global dynamics, world milk supplies are tightening, resulting in improved Class III forward contracts (see graph below).  World-wide milk supply challenges combined with softening feed prices should lead to a nice improvement in Class III Income Over Feed Margin for the remainder of 2013. Use the Dairy IOFC Spreadsheet or MilkPay.com to help demonstrate the financial benefits of producing more milk, milk protein or milk fat.

Now is the time to make milk, and milk components!  Focus on selling value-added technologies that will help improve your dairy customers' milk production, milk protein and their bottom line.  If you need some ideas, check out these resources:

Specialty Ingredients  IGR Horn Fly logo

by Kim Boccardi

Horn fly season for most of the mid-to-southern parts of the United States has started!

The USDA estimates up to $1 BILLION* yearly of lost production due to horn flies.  Check out the Horn Fly Season Map on our SI Portal Page.

  • The Damage: Milk loss due to inadequate horn fly protection in lactating dairy cattle is 10 - 20%* and lighter weaned calves, by 13 - 14 lb, account for production losses attributed to horn flies.
  • The Benefit: Growing cattle are expected to gain 0.25 - 0.50 lb daily*, or 37.5 - 75 lb over a 150-day grazing period, due to horn fly control.

How do you keep horn flies under control? ADM IGR (Insect Growth Regulatory) works to break the horn fly life cycle by controlling the flies at the immature stages.

Be sure to remind your prospects and customers of the following feeding directions:

  • Start including IGR in cattle rations in the spring (30 days before horn flies appear) and continue until cold weather limits horn fly activity.
  • IGR must be consumed at least every other day throughout the season.
  • Feed to cattle at a rate of 1.13 mg per 100 lb. of body weight per day.
  • Adequate mineral feeder space is needed - 15 to 20 cattle per feeder. Location of mineral feeder may need to be adjusted to regulate consumption.
  • If horn flies are already present when IGR is first applied, it may take up to 5 weeks before there is a noticeable reduction in horn fly numbers.
  • IGR should be fed until the first killing frost.

ADM IGR sales aids and marketing pieces are available on our Specialty Ingredients Portal page. From the homepage of service.admani.com you can find us by clicking: Product Info page > Specialty Ingredients page > IGR section.

How much Fawn Starter (81482AAA) will you sell this spring?

Please refresh your knowledge and awareness of the value-added benefits of our unique, proprietary supplement for starting deer fawns. Enhancements from Enzyme Blend W, a highly concentrated source of digestive enzymes to enhance bone structure and deposition of more muscle, and Antler D*, a supplemental form of vitamin D that provides more direct and available vitamin D, are two of the several important benefits. And the Micret form size is both effective and efficient for fawn intake and palatability. You'll find the product page on the portal with our other Wildlife Program products for all life stages of deer and elk. Fawn Starter is a floor-stocked item in Quincy starting in March.

Safety and The ADM Way
Safety
No matter what type of safety programs, meetings, processes or committees we have, it's all about being on the "lookout" for your fellow colleagues. Look for the positive safe behaviors they exhibit (VBS), look for unsafe conditions and make them known. Positively point out concerns and help get them corrected. Let's help each other get through a shift or get through the day without a safety incident. We all want to see each other leave work the same way we arrive--safely!

The ADM Way
The ADM Way explains who we are as a Company and what we are here to do. It describes what we want to be in the future and what we will do to achieve that aim. It expresses what we value, what we focus on, and what is important to us. It creates a common understanding for all colleagues and for those who interact with us.
