Autism Awareness:
With April being the National Autism Awareness month and April 2nd being the World Autism Awareness Day we thought, what better way to raise awareness than by explaining what autism is? Autism is a brain development disability that ranges in many different spectrums. Research shows that 1 in every 88 Americans deals with autism although a specific cause for it still isn't found. The disability is said to be discovered within children of ages one to three and while there is not a medical cure for it there are many different options of dealing with it.
There are many different forms of autism and no one person will have the same symptoms. While there are different levels of severity most symptoms include:
-repetitive movements -slurred or difficulty speaking -sensitivity to lights, sound and touch -poor eye contact -preference to play and be alone -avoiding contact such as hugging, cuddling, etc.
While great strides in research have found links between genetical pre-disposition and environmental factors the initial cause of autism is still unknown. While autism can be a constricting disability many autistic people to live routine lives with the help of their family, friends and loved ones.
