 | Epsilon Chapter Welcomes Alumnus
Tim Kelly of Lockton Speaks at his Alma Mater
The Epsilon Chapter welcomed UA alumnus, and President & CEO of Lockton Companies of Houston, Tim Kelly to speak at their February 19, 2013 meeting.   Tim Kelly has over 25 years of experience in the D&O, Financial Services and Insurance Risk Management business. He drew on this experience and his current role at Lockton Companies of Houston, a company he grew from a staff of eight to over 240 in ten years, to engage the audience in a dialogue about "Commercial Insurance."   Students welcomed Kelly's message and sans-power point approach as it fostered an atmosphere of speaker-audience familiarity to accompany Kelly's insights.   "Tim Kelly didn't limit himself to just what he does for his company. He illustrated for us the way that we all, one day, will work together to achieve the same goal - granted it was for Commercial Insurance, but he was able to show us if we went into commercial insurance what we'd be doing there. It was awesome," said Suzanne Christiansen, GIS/AIS Secretary.   Kelly earned a BS in Business with a concentration in Insurance/ Finance from the University of Alabama. While at the capstone, he was a member of and served as President of the GIS Chapter. "It was such an honor to have Tim Kelly speak to us, not just because he is a high-powered executive, but because he is a former GIS/AIS President!" said Courtney Green, GIS/AIS President (2012-13).   Kelly's speech resonated with AIS members when he said, "Anyone can open the door, but it's what you bring with you when you walk through that'll really help you." Annual RMI Intern Career Reception
On Thursday, February 28, 2013 in the MBA commons of Alter Hall, Sigma Chapter held its Annual Risk Management and Insurance Intern Career Reception. The reception was a culmination of months worth of preparation and professional development. In order to attend this reception, risk management students are required to complete the entire "Road to the Resume Book." This was all made possible due to the hard work of our Career Development and Professional Development teams. The following companies were in attendance:   Aetna; AIG; All Risks; Aon; Arthur J. | Alpha Lambda Hits the Road
 Missouri State's Annual Networking Trip
The Alpha Lambda chapter at Missouri State traveled to Kansas City during a recent break from classes on March 28-29. While in Kansas City, members visited the offices of Lockton Companies, Hays Companies, and Travelers. The annual spring trip for the chapter provides members an opportunity to visit with representatives from three companies to learn about their operations, opportunities for internships and careers, and for career advice.   Lockton and Hays, both brokerages, presented to students regarding their actuarial, loss prevention, and risk control operations, among others. The Travelers visit included presentations from their claims, underwriting, and financial products departments. Travelers also held a Young Professionals panel discussion, including employees who have taken part in their extensive training program.   The chapter members had a great experience. The opportunity to network presented a great chance for students to introduce themselves, get to know the firm, and evaluate how they may fit into a role at the firm. While in Kansas City and shortly following, multiple students received offers for follow-up interviews for internships and full-time career opportunities.
The Alpha Lambda chapter has taken this annual trip for many years, alternating between St. Louis and Kansas City. This event is consistently one of the best attended and most popular chapter events of the year, as it has led to many students connecting with their post-graduation employer. |
