Darian Stum, Mortgage
Market Manager

In 2010, Premier made the decision to add a mortgage-banking platform to better serve our clients. The Bank started with three people in Greensboro in 2011 and currently consists of 5 offices in the Triad, Charlotte and the Triangle. The North Carolina home buying season, which is traditionally busiest from spring through summer, is also being fueled by low home prices. Dr. Don Jud, professor emeritus and senior research fellow in the Center for Business and Economics Research in the UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics, noted in a recent interview in the News & Record that home prices are

as low as they were in 1997, when adjusted for inflation. Darian Stum's advice to homebuyers who are shopping for the right mortgage is, "Call your banker and let them help you navigate the purchase process." Happy home shopping.

March 2014: The Guilford Housing Report

G. Donald Jud, "Guilford County Housing Report, 2014.03."
The average price of homes sold was up 0.2% in March and has risen 6.7% over the past 12 months. Existing home prices in this cycle bottomed in March 2012 and have since risen 13.4%.

The Gene Banks League, Inc.

As a community bank, we know we live in an amazing community filled with inspiring people who are making a difference every day.

Gene Banks with Burlington Group Clinic

One of those people is former NBA basketball star, Gene Banks. As a three-time high school All-American, ACC Rookie of the Year and after 13 successful years in the NBA, you might think that Gene Banks would sit back and enjoy retirement...but you would be wrong. Gene has taken his love for sports and is giving back through The Gene Banks League, Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower youth and adults. While sports may be the hook, The Gene Banks League focuses on academics and strengthening social consciousness in communities. Participants are strengthened by learning about working together, building team camaraderie, and having respect for elders and themselves. Focused on boys and girls between the ages of 8-17, Banks wants to help all youth, especially the disenfranchised, become the best they can be and experience the world beyond our city limits. "We're going to make a huge impact in Greensboro," states Banks.

When Banks was looking for a banking partner who could share his passion and address the financial needs of his organization, he chose Premier Bank. "My friend, Mike Hartnett, had talked about his positive experience with Premier, about how much he respected them. That has certainly been my experience as well. The people are not just friendly, but highly effective. They make me feel at home, make it comfortable to do business with them. I am very pleased."

We salute Gene Banks and The Gene Banks League, Inc., for their commitment to our community and thank them for banking The Premier Way! To learn more about The Gene Banks League, Inc., call 336-534-5049 or email thegenebanksleague@gmail.com.

Hollie Shelton, Treasury Services Manager
Congratulations to Hollie Shelton,
Premier's Treasury Services Manager, in obtaining the designation "Certified Treasury Professional" (CTP).

This achievement required much coursework and rigorous testing over an extended period of time. We are very proud of her initiative, perseverance and capacity to obtain such a highly-regarded professional designation.

Since joining Premier, Hollie has done an exemplary job modifying and improving the Bank's treasury service function, including processes, risk management, customer service, and much more. She is currently taking a lead role in the ongoing core system conversion, which will offer increased ease of banking to our customers.

Premier President & CEO Frank Gavigan and Caroline Farmer, Deputy Director, Victims and Citizens Section

of the NC Department of Justice

High among business owners' concerns is how to protect themselves and their company from scams, identity theft and fraud. It was one of the top ranking subjects that Premier customers said they wanted to learn more about. So the first LunchU of 2014 addressed that very subject with an expert in the field.

Caroline Farmer, who was on the International Association of Chiefs of Police task force on identity theft, currently oversees the NC Attorney General's public education efforts statewide on topics such as identity theft, financial exploitation of older adults, Internet safety and related topics. She is a native of Raleigh and received her undergraduate and law degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. She shared surprising stories, statistics and tips to help everyone in the audience establish best practices for protecting themselves.
