Max's Healthy Tip of the Week

Here we go about sardines again! You know I always advocate

eating them quite often. One of the reasons is

that just 3 oz of sardines provide 40% of your daily calcium needs.

They also contain the very valuable Omega-3 fats.

They are considered an excellent source of protein

and are extremely economical.

So before you crinkle your nose up at these little fish

remember your health and your pocketbook!

LIVE LONG. LIVE WELL. LIVHOME

Most seniors want to engage in the activities they enjoy as long as possible, such as participating in library groups, theatre, movies, opera. Oftentimes there are limitations due to physical or emotional conditions. Many may risk experiencing depression and loneliness when unable to join in these social activities.

The LivHOME Comfrere program can reduce isolation & enable people to continue to be engaged in the activities they enjoy. This is an opportunity for what they like to call "paid "volunteering by assisting someone in need.

As a comfrere you are trained by LivHOME. They cover all areas of the San Fernando Valley.

DO YOU WANT TO SHARE YOUR LIFE STORY?

Spark Off Rose, a popular storytelling series in Pacific Palisades, is currently accepting submissions for its May 6th show, which will feature seven readers *over the age of 60* sharing their personal stories in connection to the theme "Turning Points."

Now in its 13th year, Spark has found that the public has a thirst for real, true stories, and the creative space cultivates an authenticity that is inspiring. As a result, Spark often presents storytellers who have never before been on stage, and who, in writing and sharing their stories, reveal their most intimate selves - candidly, humorously, and with heart. Most participants are not professional writers. For the Spark producers, it's about great stories, and most of the time they write themselves.

If you'd like to submit a story for consideration, please read the following submission guidelines:

http://www.sparkoffrose.com/content/guidelines

If you'd like to come see a show, the next one will take place on Monday, February 4th on the theme "Competition." You may purchase tickets online at the following link:

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/306600

WHEN YOUR MOTHER TOLD YOU TO EAT

ALL THOSE CARROTS, MAYBE SHE WAS RIGHT!

With all the talk about the bone thinning condition osteoporosis almost always aimed at women, you may not be aware that thin men have a strong risk for hip fractures as they age. But a new study shows there may be a way to modify that risk. No, the answer isn't taking Big Pharma's side effect loaded drugs. Instead, the key is to eat more veggies loaded with carotenoids.

These natural phytochemicals found in numerous fruits and vegetables (including carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, collard greens, papaya, bell peppers, and tomatoes).
