Greetings!

The Council's 21st Annual Summit, "Creating Healthy and Safe Communities", will be here before we know it. This year the Summit is taking place at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick on September 12, 2012 from 8am-3pm.

Even now, many months later, we continue to hear positive feedback about last year's event along with anticipatory inquiries about this year's program. Memorable moments such as the stirring keynote from GCADA Vice-Chairman Eric Arauz and a moving presentation by Lynn Edwards of the first-time W. Cary Edwards State Volunteer of the Year Award to Laurie Smith of Atlantic County are among the many highlights people are still talking about!

Attendees shared that last year's Summit provided them with "hope for the future of prevention and treatment" and we expect this year to be even more inspiring. Notable is the Council's first time partnership with the US Journal Training Northeast Conference - details are contained in this issue along with information regarding the Workshop Call For Proposals and Alliance Volunteer of the Year Award.

We remain grateful to all those who made our 20th Annual Summit such an extraordinary success. Last year marked an unprecedented amount of attendees, obliging us to move to an even larger venue.

We anticipate 2012 to bring an even greater response so stay tuned for registration details which will be released in the very near future.   We look forward to seeing you in September!

Very truly yours,

John Hulick

Executive Director

21st Annual Summit Workshops Call For Proposals

GCADA seeks proposals for the Annual Summit from a diverse group of experienced professionals on topics related to substance abuse prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery support.

Presentations should be designed to be 60 minutes in length and include national perspectives, innovative practices, and emerging trends that offer a collaborative spirit and advocate-driven efforts. Please note that your commitment would be to provide the same program for both a morning and afternoon workshop session.

Alliance Volunteer of the Year Awards

The Council is seeking Municipal Alliance Volunteer of the Year recipients to be honored at its 21st Annual Summit. We are grateful for the contribution made by Municipal Alliance members throughout New Jersey and it is with great pride that their extraordinary work is honored at the Council's Annual Summit.

A Volunteer of the Year recipient will be selected from each of the State's 21 counties and a statewide Volunteer of the Year will be selected from this group of County recipients. Nominees must serve as a volunteer or member of a Municipal Alliance and must be an individual, not a group, agency or organization.

All submissions must be submitted to the County Alliance Coordinator assigned to the County in which the nominee resides.  For Coordinator submission information please click here

US Journal Training Northeast Conference

The COUNSELOR magazine and its professional training company, US JOURNAL TRAINING, have accepted the Council's invitation to hold its Northeast Conference on Behavioral Health and Addictive Disorders in association with the Council, which will immediately follow the Summit, September 12th through September 15th.

The conference features nationally known speakers discussing key issues of interest to us all. Summit attendees are invited to attend the conference opening keynote presentation, "Developing Healthy Families: Show Me the Way to Grow Home", by Robert Ackerman on the evening of September 12th free of charge.
