Monterey and Coronado move up to 6A
Cut-off numbers for the 2014-2016 reclassification and realignment were released by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) on Monday, December 2. These numbers provide the range of campus enrollment for each of the six conferences, including the divisional cutoffs for football. The 2014-16 district alignments will be released on Feb. 3 for football and basketball. District alignments for other sports will be released in the order of their seasons.
The conference cutoffs are: 6A, 2,100 students and above; 5A, 1060 to 2099 students; and 4A - Division I, 686 to 1059 students. From the cutoff information provided, Monterey and Coronado will be in the new 6A conference, with Lubbock High in 5A and Estacado in 4A-Division I. All divisions were renamed with the elimination of the smallest "6-Man Division" in football, thus, the former 5-A division is now 6-A, and so forth. More information about UIL alignments can be found by clicking here.

Coronado choral groups entertain at United Way
The Coronado High School Show Choir "Scarlet Fever" and the Coronado madrigal singers, under the direction of Catherine Stevenson, performed at the Lubbock Area United Way Victory Report Luncheon on December 3.
Although the 2013 United Way campaign wrapped up on Tuesday, December 3, Lubbock ISD is still working to reach its goal of $202,500. Currently, the district is at 95.2 percent of the goal, with a total of $192,831 raised so far. Extra fundraising efforts are happening on campuses all across the district. Lubbock ISD has reduced the district goal by almost $50,000 over the last six years.
LISD students raised 22.3% more than 2013, with a total of $35,060 and more fundraising dollars are being reported every day. If every employee would donate just $3.33, then the district could claim victory.
The hard work and dedication put into the fundraising efforts thus far are appreciated. Please make that final push for victory. Contact Linsey in the Communications Office, 766-1066, for assistance in reaching the campus goal.

All employees MUST participate in open enrollment for online district health plan
Open Enrollment for LISD Health Plans and Health Saving Account (HSA) began Tuesday, November 12, 2013 and conclude Monday, December 9, 2013.
ALL employees MUST go through this process to either change or confirm their coverage. This includes those employees covered by other health insurance who are currently enrolled in the Hospital Income Plan (HIP).
Employees are asked to pay special attention to dependent social security numbers and dates of birth. This information will be sent to Blue Cross Blue Shield, and if incorrect will effect coverage and cause a delay in claims processing.
You may click here for a direct link to the 2014 Health Plan Online Enrollment Instructions if the attached PDF will not open.
Once again, ALL employees MUST go through this Open Enrollment process. This must be completed by December 9, 2013.
Failure to complete the Open Enrollment process will affect employee's health coverage for 2014. Employees with questions are urged to call the Risk Management office at 766-1109 or 766-1143, or email Bill Tarro at btarro@lubbockisd.org.

Lubbock ISD steps up for the community
The Monterey High School (MHS) Softball Team (shown above) went to the First United Methodist Church on November 23 to assist the Second Helpings organization serve Thanksgiving dinner. MHS softball coach Brian Cronk said, "I am extremely proud of all the kids in our softball program at Monterey for giving back to the community."
Another example of LISD students helping spread the holiday spirit across our community would certainly be the district's participation in the annual U Can Share food drive (see photo and caption below).
Individual campus examples of holiday generosity are too numerous to list in their entirety but include: the Lubbock High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets who will escort Santa Claus to PreK through first-grade classrooms at Maedgen Elementary on December 18; the Coronado High School student council will be donating and decorating a Christmas tree to a family in need and also raising funds with other Coronado student organizations for their annual Angel Tree Project; Monterey High School student organizations providing holiday parties for students at Bean and Wheelock Elementary Schools on December 13 and Honey Elementary students and staff also which have also supported an Angel Tree project.
