Lubbock High octathlon team ranks second in state
The Lubbock High School (LHS) Academic Octathlon team recently finished their season ranked second in the state.  The LHS octathletes earned first-place honors at the state meet in Frisco, Texas, which is one of three such meets held across the state for octathlon teams.  The scores from the three state meets are then combined and ranked for final state-wide standings.  Once the statewide scores were combined and ranked, LHS was edged out by Alice High School for first place.

The Monterey octathlon team finished with a ranking of number 15 (out of 56 total teams).  The Talkington School for Young Women Leaders also competed for the first time.  Talkington students will field a Decathlon team for the first time next fall.

Academic Octathlon is a preparatory program for Academic Decathlon.  As the name implies, octathlon students are tested and compete in the same eight academic areas as decathlon students but do not participate in the speech or interview competitions.  Octathlon primarily for sophomores but freshmen are occasionally selected to be on a team.  Juniors and seniors are not eligible.
