A Newsletter from Baby's Space   January, 2013 Volume 4, Issue 1

Baby's Space is a holistic, research-based approach to infant through 3rd grade education, adolescent mental health services and support for children and families residing in poverty and violence.

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! At Baby's Space we are planning a happy and healthy 2013.

Watch for invitations later this month and plan to join us February 22 for our annual fundraising party

We're excited to announce that Laura Hauer, a public health nurse has joined our team. Hiring a nurse is possible because of a Minnesota Department of Health grant that allows us to expand Baby's Space services to improve the health of childbearing-aged women. The grant funds the nurse position and a campaign to empower women to prioritize their own health and recognize the benefit of preventative medical care and healthy lifestyles.

We also welcome Jennifer Zarth as our new development director. Jennifer will work part-time on our fundraising and grant strategies.

Finally, mark your calendar for Friday, February 22 and join us at our annual fundraising event. It's a fun night to catch up on the great things happening at Baby's Space - consider bringing a friend, too!

Happy new year to all of our friends and supporters.

Best Regards,

Terrie Rose

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Heroes Nash Rice and Elizabeth Hough

Nash Rice and Elizabeth Hough are the parents of a nine-year-old son and six-year old daughter. They've been around Baby's Space since they enrolled their son at three months of age. Since the first drop-off nine years ago, they have developed strong relationships with teachers while watching their children thrive.

"We've have two children involved in Baby's Space. Our nine-year-old son has Aspergers Syndrome and although he has moved out of Tatanka Academy, he is thriving in school and attends after school care at Baby's Space," said Elizabeth. "He is comfortable and the teachers know him well and bring out the best in him. Our daughter is a first-grader at Tatanka Academy and loves school."

"The caliber of the teachers at Baby's Space is nothing less than awesome," adds Nash. "Our children enjoyed a comfortable, consistent environment. They were nurtured and they were also prepared for school."

Nash and Elizabeth are taking their enthusiasm for Baby's Space to a new level as the first parents invited to serve on the Baby's Space Board of Directors. "We are excited that we'll always be connected with Baby's Space so that we can help others involved with this amazing program," said Nash.
